Trading Places is the movie that inspired Anaconda Vice to become a stock trader....it's WP history

Damn straight.

That being said, if I'm picking solely based on what I think you'll like the most, it has to be Stand By Me. I think you'll love it long time. Watch Trading Places after though, for the reason mentioned above of course.

Next choices. These are chosen using "Ryan Gosling's Playlist" in Now TV (dude loves his 80's films).

Gremlins
The Karate Kid
Beverly Hills Cop
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
The Goonies
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

First three I've never seen before, the second three I have but it's been so long it's practically a first time viewing.

EDIT: Oh & I'm definitely continuing this over to June, still got loads to watch.

Yeah, BHC for the first time should be great. Gremlins is better to watch at Christmas time.

Goonies, Ferris, or Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

You can't go wrong with any of those films though to be honest.

Quick catch-up:

Stand By Me was good, but I feel suffered from over hype. Not the fault of the film of course, but that's the way it is.

However, I really enjoyed Beverly Hills Cop, great stuff.

Starting Road House as I type.

With the month almost over, here's what I've managed to get through the last few weeks:

Lethal Weapon
Big Trouble In Little China
Young Guns
Tremors
Stand By Me
Beverly Hills Cop
Road House
The Great Outdoors
Trading Places

Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys! I will be keeping this going into June, so if anything else comes to mind, let me know.

Favourites so far have been Big Trouble In Little China, Beverly Hills Cop & Tremors.

Another one worth watching is The Last American Virgin. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.

EDIT: Class of 1984 is really solid as well, though I imagine it won't be the easiest movie to find.
