Ring of Honor Tag Title Classic II - ROH World Tag Team Championship: Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn and Sara Del Rel vs. The American Wolves

If my memory is correct this is the King's eighth defense. And it's the first time these two teams have met. Claudio Castagnoli and Davey Richards start for their respective teams. Richards goes after the leg so Castagnoli takes an immediate powder. Chris Hero tags in and he engages Richards in some chain wrestling on the mat. They battle to a standoff and then Eddie Edwards tags in. Edwards knocks Hero down with a shoulder tackle, so Castagnoli tags back in. Castagnoli doesn't fare any better so the Kings regroup on the floor. Back in the ring Castagnoli strikes first but Edwards strikes right back. Edwards knocks Castagnoli back to the floor and the Kings regroup again. Back in the ring the Wolves stay in control and Richards comes back in. Tags are made on both ends and the Kings are able to take Edwards down with a double boot to the face. Now the Kings take a sustained advantage on the weakened Edwards. After a few minutes Edwards makes enough of a comeback to make the hot tag. Richards unleashes kicks on both Kings, and then goes up top for a missile dropkick on Castagnoli for two. The match breaks down and the referee loses control. Richards goes for another missile dropkick but Castagnoli catches him and executes the Giant Swing, and Hero adds the boot to the head for a two-count. Castagnoli pitches Richards to the floor and Hero whips him into the barricade. Back in the ring Hero goes right to work on Richards, keeping him isolated from his partner. Castagnoli hits an impressive dead lift German Suplex for two. He then turns his focus to Richard's knee, using a half crab and then a horse collar. Richards reaches the ropes. Hero tags in and covers three straight times for two-counts. He hits a couple of boots to the face but Richards shrugs them off and makes the tag. Edwards takes out both Kings, hitting Hero with a cross body block off the top rope for two. He hits a Codebreaker off the second rope for two and then turns it into a half crab. Castagnoli breaks up the hold. Edwards low bridges both Kings to send them to the floor, and the Wolves follow them out with stereo dives. Now the Wolves control the tempo. Edwards hits Castagnoli with a double stomp on the apron. Meanwhile Richards kicks Hero in the face to set him up for an Edwards double stomp to the back. The Wolves double-kick Hero in the head and Castagnoli breaks up the cover. The Kings are able to reclaim control on Edwards. Castagnoli nails him with a Pop-Up European Uppercut and Richards breaks up the cover. Richards unleashes a series of kicks, even though he's not the legal man in the ring. Castagnoli makes both Wolves pay with an Axe Bomber. That gets at two-count on Edwards. Castagnoli takes him up top for a superplex but Edwards fights it off and hits a rana. Richards tags in and tries the handspring kick but Castagnoli catches him in the UFO for two! The crowd bought that one. Castagnoli tries the Riccola Bomb but Richards reverses to a sunset flip for two. Richards traps Castagnoli in the Ankle Lock and Hero breaks up the hold. Castagnoli comes back with a superplex and Hero follows with a moonsault but Edwards makes the save at two! Hero tags in and hits a running forearm and a superkick for two. He hits a rolling elbow and a Regalplex for another near-fall. Richards fights back with a series of strikes and a big clothesline for two. Edwards tags in and hits an enziguiri and a Tiger Suplex. The referee loses control again. Hero ends up back in the ring, and Edwards hits him with two superkicks and a Saito Suplex for two. Hero fights back with elbows for both Wolves, and gets a two-count on Edwards. The match has broken down once again. The Wolves hit Hero with the assisted Alarm Clock and the Big Wolf Combo but Castagnoli breaks up the cover. They hit him with the super assisted lung blower and Richards turns it right into the Achilles Lock. Hero reaches the ropes. Outside the ring Castagnoli whips Richards into the barricade. In the ring Hero hits a rolling Big Boot for two and then the Death Blow but Edwards kicks out! Edwards gets a small package out of nowhere for two, and then a schoolboy rollup for two. Hero responds with three rolling elbows and finally Edwards is finished. This was a very good tag team match. At the same time, there absolutely no reason this match had to go this long. The length made for lots of superfluous action and way too many nearfalls. After awhile, I completely lost any sense of drama this match had. ***1/2

ROH Return Engagement - El Generico vs. Kota Ibushi

Ibushi is from Japan and the DDT promotion. He's 0-3 in his stateside appearances, sayeth the announcers. Lock up goes nowhere. They agree to give the clean break. Ibushi working a muay thai stance. Kota avoids a shoot and gets a waistlock. Generico escapes and they trade arm wringers. Generico tries rolling through but Ibushi stays on the top wristlock. Generico gets a rope break and another clean break. Generico pauses for some Oles. They go to the test of strength. Generico tries a neck break spot but can't get it. Generico trips up Ibushi and goes to the headlock. Ibushi sends him off but Generico gets a shoulderblock. Ibushi comes back with a dropkick and boots in the corner. Ibushi with a DR FG kick and another to the back for 2. Ibushi goes to the sleeper. Ibushi with a series of chops and kicks. He tries another FG but Generico ducks so Ibushi goes for the standing moonsault and Generico gets the knees up. He must have been watching Ibushi tape. Generico looks to have taken a stiff shot to the nose. Generico with a body slam for 2. Generico sends him off and hits a leg lariat for 2. Generico with some chops in the corner. Ibushi tries a couple of charges but eats a crossbody off the top for 2. Generico with a backbreaker for 2. This is a pretty slow pace for Generico. Generico with another ribbreaker and this the split leg moonsault for 2. They slug it out and that seems out of place right here but whatever. Generico gets a headstart but Ibushi hits a standing rana. Generico tries the yakuza kick but eats turnbuckle and a leg lariat to the back from Ibushi. Generico with a tiltawhirl backbreaker to stay on the core psychology. Generico heads up top but Ibushi handsprings into a gainer in the corner and kicks Generico in the head on the flip. That's pretty awesome even if it's all flash. Ibushi hits a double jump Lionsault on Generico to the floor. Generico tries a sunset flip from the apron but Ibushi catches him in a Snow Plow for 2. Generico goes for a lariat but Ibushi ducks and gets a kick. Generico again ducks a FG but Ibushi hits the corkscrew standing moonsault this time for 2. Generico blocks a kick with a kick and hits a Blue Thunder Bomb for 2. Ibushi gets the elbow up in the corner but runs out into a BRUTAL JuviDriver for 2. Ibushi blocks the yakuza kick and hits another series of punches and kicks but runs into a big boot. DOUBLE HULK UP! Generico goes for the YAKUZA HOMICIDA but Ibushi kips back and then kips up Matrix-style and then gives Generico an enzuigiri and a BEAUTIFUL GERMAN SUPLEX! Bridge gets 1, 2,--KICK OUT AT 2! That's a GORGEOUS sequence. Better than anything even in MCMG/Briscoes for my money. Ibushi heads up top but Generico meets him up there to go for the BRAINBUSTAAA. Ibushi forearms him down and goes for a moonsault off the top but lands on his feet because Generico moves and tumbles directly into a standing moonsault for 2. PHEW! This guy is crazy. Ibushi with the charge in the corner but Generico no sells and hits the yakuza kick and a splash off the top for 2. Generico goes for a brainbuster but Ibushi slides out and hits a roundhouse. He heads up top but Generico cuts him off. Ibushi wants the MDK bomb but Generico lands on his feet and comes back with a basement dropkick in the corner. Generico with another yakuza kick and goes again for the BRAINBUSTAAA but Ibushi counters to a reverse huracanrana off the top. Ibushi goes up and hits the Phoenix Splash and that's enough to get the 1-2-3. These two meshed well as opponents and the stuff they were out there doing was just unreal. I know Kota got some criticism for doing the same spots over and over during these four shows, but the way they worked them into this one was a joy to behold. I loved how Generico countered one of his trademark standing moonsaults, then went after the ribs like a motherf*cker. Grinding down a body part isn’t necessarily Generico’s normal game, but he did a great job of tailoring his usual offence to suit that purpose. Had Ibushi actually bothered to sell it at all we could genuinely having been talking about adding an extra half star onto things. ***1/2

Ricky Steamboat vs Steve Austin US Title Bash at The Beach 1994

Always liked this match but they had better. A little slow at the beginning and a botch or two, but really great last 5-10 minutes. ****1/4

John Cena vs Kurt Angle First Blood Match Raw 1/2/06

This was decent and good build for the chamber. Styles lost me when he said I think this is the first time I've ever seen Angle tap though. ***
