ROH Unforgettable - International Dream Partner Match: Samoa Joe & Low Ki vs. Kenta Kobashi & Homicide

They truly do drop ALL storylines here. Ki and Homicide are stablemates, but for this match they basically pretend the Rottweilers don't exist. It's kind of odd because Joe & Kobashi earning each other's respect and going after the evil Rottweilers is such a traditional booking move. IT WOULD BE KINDA STUPID NOT TO DO IT, GOOD ONE GABE. The first half was a little off but in the second portion it really kicked into higher gear and ended up being an absolute CLASSIC. Some of the Ki/Kobashi exchanges were magic. This match lacked the atmosphere that Kobashi's match from the night before had in the first half of the match. It picked up considerably and everyone certainly beat everyone else up, but that finish was anticlimactic. This barely edges out the tag title match from Manhattan Mayhem as the best tag team match in ROH so far this year, You’ll notice that Homicide won the match for his team because he was the junior guy best equipped to take out the big man on the opposing team. Ki looks great in the loss and everyone in the match had a character arc. ****1/2

Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. The Young Bucks - ROH Contention
These two teams have seriously good chemistry together. For around 15 minutes all four men put in a really good effort and produced some really fun action. The bout didn't do a whole lot concerning Steen's character, but really this match was all about putting the Bucks on the map in ROH, and they certainly achieved that. ***1/2

Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. The Young Bucks - ROH Final Battle 2009
Just like their match at Contention, both teams put on another solid match, with great action sequences and slick tag team action evident here. Going in to the match Steen was selling his knee injury, so I was both surprised and disappointed that the Bucks didn't totally focus on that body part. Instead they worked on Generico for a lot of the match, and delivered their infamous Superkicks to Kevin Steen especially. Still though, the action was very good as you'd expect and the Young Bucks' use of Superkicks to Steen were both vicious looking and a nice image to the eventual collapse of Steen's shattered character. It's only after Steen's heel turn following this bout that you realise how well the ending played into this storyline. ***1/2

Kevin Steen vs. Colt Cabana - ROH 8th Anniversary Show
We got to see Corino's introduction into this feud, as well as Generico's reluctant face off with Steen, and while both were significant events in this whole storyline, the actual match itself was pretty poor. Steen and Cabana never really clicked, and almost just seemed to be wasting time until Corino's interference in the match. A nice development in the storyline, but nothing good to say about the match itself. *1/2

Kevin Steen vs. Kenny Omega - ROH From the Ashes
That really didn't need to go on as long as it should have. Cut the match down into the last 7 minutes or so and you have a pretty exciting bout, but everything leading up to that is pretty dull. I'm all for a slow build-up in a match, but they didn't really build-up to anything exactly, just picked up the tempo. They certainly picked things up in an exciting way, and the crowd did get more lively in the later stages of the match, but overall I feel the match could have been better. ***

Kevin Steen & Steve Corino vs. El Generico & Colt Cabana - ROH The Big Bang
A nice teaser of things to come from these two teams. The action was pretty decent and the hatred really came through for the first time in the feud, but the DQ finish kind of left things abruptly. Understandable why they went with that ending, but didn't do a whole lot for the match itself. **1/2

Kevin Steen vs. Colt Cabana - ROH 8th Anniversary Show
Surprisingly solid match here. Was a slow start to begin with, but things eventually picked up to a really good pace. Some of the action was very entertaining, and the different hardcore spots used really brought off the hatred between the two. The spot involving the thumbtacks will probably be the moment that's most remembered about the match, but I particularly liked the ending, with Steen applying the cross face to Cabana with the barbed-wire baseball bat underneath him. It brought back the moment where Cabana had Corino in a similar position as Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies, and so developed their rivalry along nicely as well. A big improvement from their previous match together. ***1/2
