UFC 92 (Mir v Nog, Rampage v Wandy Silva, Griffin v Evans)

Rampage v Wandy was a sign of what was to come for Wand in the future, big KO. He was never really the same after this fight (apart from flashes vs. Bisping & Cung Le) and lost his punch resistance. Back here he was still thought of as a brutal finisher and this was a long awaited rematch from Pride. KO R1 Rampage.

Mir had just came off the Brock win but Nog was still highly rated back here and had just came off beating Sylvia for the interim belt. Nog fought like shit and Mir beat him in the second round. Nog moaned about a staph infection weakening him, which was a load of bullshit. Mir broke Nogs arm last year in the rematch.

Rashad was on a hype train from KOing Liddell, Griffin was champ and had beat Rampage & Shogun back to back. Shad knocked him out in the second but went on to get KOd himself in his next fight by Machida.

Minotauro Nogueira vs Tim Sylvia @ UFC 81

This fight was for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship, Randy Couture was the actual champion at the time but couldn't fight Nogueria so this fight was made for the interim title. When this fight happened i wasn't so sure about it, mainly because i didn't want Tim Sylvia becoming champion.

The first round seen Nogueria throwing some good leg kicks, neither guy really had any defense for each other both kept eating each others shots, towards the middle of the round Sylvia caught Nog with an uppercut and would try to finish the fight but couldn't get it done even though Big Nog was able to defend himself against Sylva a few minutes earlier you could tell he was still a little rocked from the uppercut and ground and pound. With about 50 seconds left in the round Big Nog started to regain his composure and had an answer for what Sylvia was doing and got a quick take down with about 10 seconds left in the fight.

The beginning of the second round, seen a more aggressive Nogueria come out, he was having a little trouble with his reach though. Seen some pretty good take down defense from Tim in this round.

This was a five round fight, but didn't go all the way it ended in this third round.

The third round started with Nogueria throwing a leg kick but Sylvia answers with a jab on the way back, finally Big Nog's take down attempt was successful and Nogueria immediately started to show how bad he wanted this fight, he got into side control and put in a guillotine and Timmy tapped out.

With a win here Big Nog became the first fighter to ever hold a Pride and UFC championship title.

Good fight because of the fact that Tim lost:punk:

Frank Mir Vs Tank Abbot @ UFC 41

I hate Tank, so this was a great fight for me to watch it was his return to the UFC and Frank Mir was still an up and coming fighter at this point in his career, Tank came into this fight talking so much shit about how he loves to fight and couldn't wait to hurt Frank, and that would've been all and well if he didn't tap out to Frank Mir 46 seconds into the first round of the fight..

Not much to say about this fight at all.

Watched the last round of the Showtime Grand Prix for the first time.

Barnett is an absolute beast, man. Brilliant all rounder, would of loved to have seen him vs prime Lesnar. Pretty shocked Corimer got this far too, thought Bigfoot Silva would of squashed him considering the size difference.

Rampage Jackson vs Keith Jardine @ UFC 96
Minus a couple of takedowns from Rampage this was very much a 3 round, stand and bang affair with Rampage being the better and also scoring a couple of knockdowns. Damn good fight with Rampage the deserved winner.

Gonna watch some more Rampage ones now.

Nog was actually sick and coming off of a Staph infection. Plus he had bad knees which he got surgery on 2 months after the fight. Not to take anything away from Frank's performance at all but Big Nog was not well entering the fight.

Junior Dos Santos Vs Stefan Struve @ UFC 95

Junior Dos Santo's second fight in the UFC, Stefan's first fight in the UFC. I became a fan of both of these fighters after this fight.

This was a one round fight, not a whole lot to even say about it both fighters came out landing strikes and Junior ended up landing a few more shots than Stefan, nobody can handle Dos Santos's shots for a long period of time and he drops Stefan here for the win and second KO win of his UFC career.

Junior Dos Santos Vs Gabriel Gonzaga @ UFC Fight Night

Gonzaga is one of the most overrated fighters in the UFC, but for some reason with a win here he would've been back in title contention.

Another quick Dos Santos fight here, he came out at the beginning and absolutely dominated, this wouldn't even get out of the first round, there's just no way in hell that Gabriel was able to hang with Junior here and his heavy strikes.

This fight ended with 40 seconds left in the first round by way of knockout, Dos Santos was just too powerful again in this fight.

Rampage Jackson vs Forrest Griffin @ UFC 86
Great start to the fight with Rampage seemingly landing the more powerful strikes evident by the knockdown with around a minute to go but wasn't able really to capitalise on it and Forrest manages to recover and see the round through. Forrest did manage to land leg kicks at will though and would play a big part in how the fight goes in the other rounds.

First exchange of the second round was another leg kick by Forrest which hurt Rampage and had him hobbling instantly. Forrest throws two more kicks but Rampage caught it and looked for a takedown but was stuffed by Forrest as he turns it into a standing guillotine before landing some knees and ending up on top of Rampage in half guard with the guillotine still. Forrest stays on top of Rampage for the remainder of the round (around 4 minutes 30 seconds) transitioning into different positions, landing some short elbows, punches and looking for a submission but at no point during any of that did I feel as though Rampage was in any real danger of being finished.

A tentative opening minute and half or so in the third round with Forrest obviously looking for the leg kicks because Rampage's leg is seemingly destroyed with him being able to put little pressure on it. Rampage probably got the more telling punches in during this round, but Forrest still managed to get a couple of kicks away on the injured leg.

Fast start to round four as Rampage comes out and looks alot springier on his feet and manages to hit some nice uppercuts on Forrest who responds by clinching and trying to trip Rampage to the floor but Rampage manages to just lean forward by the looks of things and instead take him down and wind up on top. Forrest locks in a triangle but Rampage manages to escape via his trademark slam. The fight ends back up on their feet and as they are doing so, Rampage catches Forrest with an uppercut on the way up. Little action to close out the fourth.

Tight fifth round to end a great fight where a new UFC champion is crowned.

Chael Sonnen Vs Anderson Silva @ UFC 117

Chael talked SO much shit leading up to this fight, and Anderson Silva is probably one of if not the best fighter in the history of the UFC. This fight was an absolute war, in Chael's eye's Silva was the champion but Chael was the best middleweight in the world. This was one of the most exciting fight's I've seen.

The first round was all Chael Sonnen he dropped Anderson Silva early and pounced him.

The first round seen both guys with some back and forth action, few leg kicks and what not but after about 2 minutes into the round Anderson ate a jab and from that point on through the rest of the round Sonnen was on top of Silva hitting shot after shot, he really brought it to Silva and was the clear cut winner of this round and the first time anybody had ever dominated Silva the way Chael did.

The second round started off with, Chael taking Silva down again and at this point Anderson Silva looks completely overwhelmed in this fight there was no way that Silva was expecting this from Chael. Silva was getting absolutely battered at this point and Chael was just having his way with him, mark that as Two rounds for Chael now.

Now we're off to the third of five rounds in this fight, like i said previously it's been all Chaeel Sonnen in this fight and this round would be more of the same from the first two rounds. Silva comes in for a big kick, Sonnen catches it and brings the fight to the ground and would continue to ground and pound Silva. Anderson did a little more in this round than the first two, so depending on who judging the fight and what they were looking for it could've went either way but Chael still wins here.

Now we're down to the 4th round of the fight. Silva came into this round and landed shot after shot and Kick after kick on Sonnen in the first minute Until Chael turned this into a wrestling match and took all of what Silva had just did and basically made it meaningless as in my opinion Sonnen won this round anyways and was at this point up 4-0

Last round here, Silva had to go for a KO or Submission to win this fight at this point, There was no way he was going to win this if it did end up going to the judges.

The fight started off with Chael tagging Silva on the chin with a nasty shot, and dropped him Silva was able to survive early though. And with about a minute and 30 seconds left in the fight Anderson Silva puts on a triangle choke and Chael tapped out...After winning 4 and a half rounds out of five rounds Chael tapped out.

Highly recommended fight here, Nobody ever dominated Silva like Chael did here and even though Chael lost he proved that he could hang with Silva. Very impressive fight by both men Silva for being able to hang on and have the awareness after taking so many big shots to still be able to lock on a triangle choke out of no where, and Chael fro dominating the fight and making Silva earn a win. Could watch this fight over and over again.

Winner by submission and still UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva.

Junior Dos Santos Vs Fabrico Werdum @ UFC 90

This i thought could've been an interesting fight if it were to happen right now in 2012 based on how Werdum's striking has drastically improved when we last seen him fighting.

This was Dos Santo's debut in the UFC and At this time Dos Santos was finishing all his fights in the first round, and was 6-1 in overall fights in MMA.

Pretty sick knockout to end this fight, ended with a HUGE uppercut by Dos Santos that came out of no where and Dos Santos picks up the win via KO.

Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin @ UFC 64

Anderson Silva's second fight in the UFC and it would be for the UFC Middleweight championship.

I was a pretty big Franklin mark back then and only really knew Silva from pride. Needles to say i was pulling for Rich here.

First round starts with some feeling out, not a whole lot of action until after about 3 minutes into the fight. Both guys were testing each others leg kicks out for a bit, with about 2 minutes left in the round Silva clinches with Rich and start kneeing him in the chest and head, great body work by Silva here.

Silva hits a quick Knee to the head, and wins the fight via tko, and took home the middleweight championship giving also while doing so gives Rich Franklin his first loss in the UFC

Rampage Jackson Vs Wanderlei Silva @ UFC 92

Not really a huge fan of Wandy, so i wanted Rampage to win here. This was a pretty big fight for Rampage in terms of redemption, he lost to Wandy two times in PRIDE.

These two legit didn't like each other at all. And it all fueled to this fight. To start off the fight Rampage landed a few big shots, but nothing so big that it would really hurt Silva. With about a minute and 30 seconds left in the first round Rampage gets his revenge and hits a nasty jab right to the chin and gets the KO win.

Last night was the last MMA fight I watched. In a DOMINANT win by Ben Henderson over Frankie Edgar to win the UFC Lightweight Championship in Japan at UFC 144. What a heart and chin Edgar has. Still would be a better fighter if he dropped down to 145.

Last fight i watched was last night , Edgar vs Henderson for the lightweight title and easily match of the night, Edgar took an absolute beating and a massive upkick which i thought might of ended the fight but it was the end of the 2nd round and Edgar survived, In my honest opinion Henderson looked like he had no weaknessess and totally dominated with his size over edgar and his brutal kicks! I think we are going to see Henderson vs Pettis which is a rematch from the WEC Days! im looking forward to it!
