I was enjoyin’ the openin’ tag match but the endin’ was pretty lame. Big Show could have beat Truth and Morrison by himself the way they booked that. You could have easily let Truth and Morrison get some sort of offense on Show but naw we don’t get that. Oh well, the action between the other 3 was some fun stuff as they tried their best to step up for their Mania match.
Jesus that Orton triple threat was rather bland on a rewatch. Neither DiBiase or Rhodes looked like much of a threat even when they were in control. Once their partnership fell apart, they were pretty much done in minutes. It really is just an extended squash at the end of the day.
Folks always know I tend not give high ratings to ladder matches. This MITB was a bit bland though. We had some good spots but there was a lot of typical spots too. Kofi usin’ a broken ladder as stilts was fun… it just didn’t look like he had any chance of actually gettin’ the briefcase. There are better MITB matches. I also don’t like havin’ 10 folks in the match either, you get too many people restin’ until their next spot and you know they could just be involved more.
Sheamus/HHH was alright. It felt like a decent fight but it just felt like they could have done so much more here. I think they could have a much more interestin’ match nowadays. Of course, current day Sheamus is a gem.
I just wish Punk/Mysterio was longer, they were killin’ it. Still you could tell their chemistry was off the charts so I still gotta give it ***. I can’t wait to watch more of their matches comin’ up.
Sittin’ through this damn Hart/McMahon shit again. The feud on TV wasn’t all the bad but this match just sucks. Well it’s not just that it sucks, it’s more of the fact that it shouldn’t have happened like this. It should have been sumthin’ more like Umaga/Lashley at least where they both choose wrestlers to represent them. Well, you can’t change the past though so I think we should just look at it as resolution to the 1997 Survivor Series, instead of complainin’ about old folks who shouldn’t be in the ring. I ain’t gettin’ into the action or lack of action, you all know how it went. I’m ready to move on.
God, this Edge/Jericho match is still so much fun. The counters and reversals, the emotion of a well built it’s all her in one tidy package. I think we can only hope that Edge has a ‘Mania title like this again this year. It isn’t Taker/Edge by any means but for 2010 SmackDown this is a fantastic main event feud. Jericho targettin’ Edge’s achilles at pretty much the perfect time which leads to him bein’ able to hold after several more minutes of control. Great, great stuff here. This is the kind of match that makes a ‘Mania feel like a ‘Mania.
Also can’t go wrong with that spear off the announcer table’s either so Edge can get some revenge to keep his heat. That’s held up very well. Quite iconic.
Man, I probably should watched the preshow as well. Showin’ highlights of Yoshi Tatsu winnin’ a battle royal that looked like it was at least fun. I am skippin’ this 10 woman tag match by the way. I’ve already sat through one match, I didn’t want to sit through again.
Time for a Batista/Cena. To be fair this card has been smartly booked for the most part. After havin’ some useless piss breaks, they’re puttin’ on their better matches so the crowd is ready. After the Orton/Trips disaster of goin’ on after Taker/Michaels last year, they sure had to do better with this show.
I was always a bigger fan than I think most were for this Batista/Cena match. It’s worked very well for two muscle men who rose through the WWE ranks at the same time. It’s a match that was bound to happen. If you didn’t care for this match at the time, I think everyone should give it another chance. It’ ain’t the greatest by any means but just like Edge/Jericho it feels like a proper Mania match. I ain’t sayin’ Taker/Michaels after this isn’t but both World titles were justified this night. Batista does kind of fuck up catchin’ Cena in midair as he jumped into a Batista Bomb but I think that more so Batista actually bein’ a nice guy and not wantin’ Cena to break his neck again. Still give this one another chance if ya got the time.
I think, I’m not gonna do much writin’ for Michaels/Taker. I’m sure a lot of folks here have watched their two Mania classics many times more than me. You know how ya feel, I’m just gonna enjoy this classic for myself this go around.
I hope you folks enjoyed this write up. I loved rewatchin’ this.
