He burst into a man’s home and tried to set him on fire. But he ended up setting himself afire instead.
Police still haven’t found the flaming suspect, who was spotted by another tenant in the apartment building in the 900 block of North Broadway as he fled the victim’s apartment at about 5 a.m. Thursday, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
Based on what they’ve learned through interviews, police think the suspect – a man in his mid-20s – forced his way into the victim’s apartment with a gas can, a lighter and some combustible materials.
He found the 38-year-old tenant in the bathtub, Nolte said. But when he tried to set the man on fire, he only succeeded in setting his own clothes afire.
He ran out of the apartment and disappeared, Nolte said.
“The victim stated he did not know this individual very well,†Nolte said. “He was unsure why he would try to set him on fire.â€
Police are looking for a man who has burns to his hands and his torso.
