He wasn't around much anymore anyways, but I guess this means he won't even be making the odd appearance to commentate anymore as well. Will be a shame not to hear him commentate WrestleMania 30. Hopefully his "personal business" endeavors, which I'm sure is his cooking line, will take off for him.

What does that really mean though? I mean what was he really doing? Sure he scouted once and awhile announced NXT at random and the occasional Raw and PPV appearances. I don't really expect that to change though, retiring in wrestling doesn't mean the same thing as it does other places. To me it just means "I'm only making special appearances"

Yeah, I'm with Prime on this one. Don't see what "retiring" is for him since he wasn't doing any commentating at the moment anyway, he's been semi-retired for years. He'll still make an appearance to get buried in Oklahoma.

Whatever the case he's had an amazing career and has done so much for which ever company he has been employed for and will go on playing a important part for WWE in one way or the other.

As announced earlier, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is retiring after 20 years with the company.

Aside from Jim Ross wanting to focus on "other business ventures" (most notably his JR's Barbecue company), the Wrestling Observer reports that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had a role in his departure.

According to Observer report, Ross and McMahon met yesterday (Wednesday) to discuss Ross's future with the company, which led to the decision for Ross to retire.

It's being said that Ric Flair's unruly behavior at the WWE 2K14 panel during SummerSlam weekend was a contributing factor in his departure. WWE management felt that Ross, who hosted the event, should have cut off Ric Flair when he went off-script and made several controversial remarks in front of WWE & 2K Sports executives.

Like other people have mentioned, at the end of the day nothing is really going to be changing for him that much anyway. I'm sure he'll still be invited to scouting events, NXT tryouts and the such from time to time so he'll still be around.

He can go comentate OU games on the radio like he always does. Good for him for finally walking away. My wrestling brain thinks this is a work fpor the McMahon storyline........buuuuuut if legit, good for him for him, can't be around wrestling forever.

He'll probably write a book. Talk about being a California boy, how he was a decent basketball player and how Danny Hodge is awesome and he didn't punish Bart Gunn for knocking out his boy Steve Williams, but maintain that Dr Death was hurt and so that fight didn't count.

I think JR should call wrestlemania 30 and bow out then. Mania 30 needs to be the biggest event in wrestling history and without JR calling the action I don't think that's possible.

I know he hasn't commentated in a long time, and he probably won't be gone completely, but I'm still really going to miss him.

The best wrestling announcer ever. No one comes close.

This whole situation is very suss, so odd that WWE would come out and say that he was retiring when he has rarely been used lately anyway. Why put that final nail in the coffin rather than leave the door open for a later return? JR is a guy that should be on the books until he dies, keep him to scout talent and to work with the young guys in NXT.

If he does end up writing a book I will definitely buy it.
