About three months ago back in April, the Farrelly (Carrey and Daniels) brothers revealed that they are working on a sequel to "Dumb and Dumber," which was released in 1994 and grossed $247 million on a $17 million budget. Then came word that both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels would reprise their roles, something that Carrey was extremely excited about.

But Entertainment Tonight is now reporting that Carrey has dropped out, stating that he has grown increasingly frustrated by Warner Bros' lack of enthusiasm for the project. "I would have thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was a no-brainer," he said. "After all it's implied in the title."

Without Carrey there's obviously no movie.

Such a shame as I loved the first one. The sequel can't go on with just Daniels and someone else. There is no sequel to that movie without Jim Carrey. If he's leaving the film because he doesn't think it'll be good the way they're doing it, I guess that's a good thing rather than just taking the paycheck.. Making sure he doesn't give the fans a crap movie and not possibly ruining the first one by making a bad second one.

But I heard that he was talking about the film just a couple of days ago, maybe since then there has been some creative/artistic disagreements.

This report might not be true so best to wait for some more info.

This is such a huge disappointment. I'm a big Jim Carrey fan and the first film is among one of my favorite films of all-time. I guess if he believes the script is inferior or has artistic disagreements, because Jim IS Lloyd Christmas and knows him better than anybody, then I suppose it's for the best but a big part of me hopes they work out their problems and this film goes through with Carrey and Daniels.

"I thought the Rocky Mountains would be a little rockier than this! Yeah, that John Denver is full of shit man!" :D

I think that they left it too long, it would have made more sense to do it ten years ago. Leaving a gap of close to twenty years is a pretty big risk as a lot of people will have forgotten about the original. I remember seeing the original when I was a kid but I don't really want to see a sequel.

Other than pure nostalgia, I don't think a sequel would've worked in this day and age.

Jim Carrey's type of humour was at its limit around early 2000.

Let's put it this way, the Three Stooges today was utter shit, and that was a remake from like 50-60? years ago. As much as I'd love to see the sequel, I don't think it would work. Sure, most old fans would come running back, but kids these days? Let's just say I fear for the future.
