Queensland welcomes Jersey Shore pitch

Tourism Queensland says it would like to talk with the producers of US reality show Jersey Shore, after two of its main stars said they wanted to film a season of the popular series in Australia.

Michael Sorrentino, aka The Situation, and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro both told US reporters in January they wanted to shoot one of the final seasons of the show in Australia.

While promoting season five, which premiered in the US on January 5, Sorrentino told E Online he wanted to go to Australia because "all the girls are hot".

His comments were backed by fellow cast member Ortiz-Magro, who said he wanted to go to Australia "and experience the culture".

"I hear that it's really big, the show over there, so I'd like to see the feedback we get," Ronnie told Hollyscoop.

Tourism Queensland has welcomed the idea, saying the Jersey Shore cast may enjoy the Gold Coast's "vibrant nightlife".

"We would welcome any interest and discussions," a Tourism Queensland spokeswoman told ninemsn.

The spokeswoman said Tourism Queensland would need details from producers before agreeing to anything, but the state had a range of activities that may suit the show.

"Obviously the Gold Coast is Australia's playground, there's theme parks, hanging out with lifesavers — the Gold Coast also has a very vibrant nightlife," she said.

"Cairns and the tropical north are very different from anything they would get at home, or anywhere else in the world."

The first season of the show, filmed in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, sparked controversy when it first premiered on MTV in 2009. Following the lives of eight hard-partying housemates, it was accused of fuelling negative Italian-American stereotypes.

But it proved popular with viewers and the cast has gone on to film seasons in Miami Beach and Italy.

I'd love to see them in Australia as I live here, would be interesting to see how our culture/lifestyle would look on their show. I don't live in QLD though so that's a shame.

Hopefully they do meet and greets around the country or something.

I'm actually hoping this show dies out now. I admit I watched this shit thus far already but each time I had to ask myself why. Pauly is barely tolerable and getting to be worse than the cliche comic relief catchphrase character of any show ever.

Basically it was fun for awhile but I'm ready for this to die now.

I'm Australian too, and as a fan of the show I'd fucking love to see the shit they could get up to on the Gold Coast. I don't live in Queensland either, so it'd likely suck for anybody living on the Gold Coast to have them around as they're probably going to cause some sort of trouble by just being there, but as a fan I definitely wanna see it happen.

Do I think it will? Probably not. I'm surprised that Tourism Queensland is open to the idea, but I don't see it being allowed to happen without a fight from members of the Queensland Parliament.

Show has been horrible so far this season, to much boring shit happening, and really Pauly D is the only one that makes it some what watchable.

Fuuuck this season sucks. So does this show. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those haters who says "OMG these people are so dumb disgrace to society refuse to watch this show bitch bitch whine whine", but it's really not entertaining anymore. The first three season were good, now I don't even want to watch it. The coolest and most chill guy on the show, Vinny, has now turned into a bitch. And Mike is some bi-polar 30 year old creeper.

Yeah I'm not really interested in it anymore either. The concept got old really fast.

Think it's time for them to switch it up and get some new faces in there because I've really grown sick of the current cast. Especially Mike, jesus fuck.

They need to give Pauly D and Vinny more time on TV. They're the most entertaining on the show. :side:

Glad that Pauly D is getting his own show on MTV.

Honestly just waiting for them to get to the end of the season so Mike can bust out Snookie for them hooking, besides that this show really has run it's course, and I don't see myself watching the spin offs that are planned for when this ends.
