With all these PPV name changes
THE WWE WANTS TO MAKE ANOTHER ATTITUDE ERA!

Remember back in 1997-99 the WWE did all these crazy name changes but no one said anything back then? DX, Capital Carnage, Rock Bottom, Fully loadded, One Night Only, Over the Edge, Rebbelion, Insurextion, Invasion and a few others I am sure if you looked them up.

Sure some of them sounded ok but they did only last once and they were random changes like the changes we hear now.

Anyone see the resemblance?

The attitude era plus PG = Epic Fail.

I can just see Stone Cold walking out and saying if you want me to open a can a whoop-butt on Vince McMahon gimme a Heck Yeah.

But you do bring up a good point bro... I wish they can make it back to PG-14 I swear to god!

They should REALLY drop the PG rating, it's useless trying to target a wrestling product on kids.

Oh I agree, the WWE wants to make another 'era' but it's not another 'Attitude era', it's the 'Fluffy Bunnies and Rainbows era'.

Don't get me wrong, my favorite 'era' of wrestling was the 90's pre-attitude. With Bret Hard and Shawn Michaels and the Bushwhackers, all the gimmicks running wild and WWF Saturday morning.

But it's like they're trying to combine the 90's all together, serious wrestlers going by their names (Randy Orton, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison) and no more gimmicks, but with the PG rating, it just doesn't work.

The PG rating of the early 90's worked because it was like a live action cartoon with all the characters and gimmicks. Now it looks like a Monday night Fox Network Teen drama.

Without the gimmicks it's guys wanting to beat the hell out of each other for the title, this can't be done realisticly with a PG rating.

Why? Kids are impressionable and stupid. Besides it's in WWE's best interest to get to fans when they're young before they get smart and discover good wrestling like Ring Of Honor or PWG.

This was directed at C4 btw.

man no one (tbh) watches wrestling really anymore... it got old and stale, they need to target a more mature audience for once

There's other ways to make an Attitude Era than changing names of shows. I'm kind of getting sick of the Attitude Era love that everybody seems to have. It was a good time for the industry but other than that it wasn't as amazing as people make it out to be. Download an episode of Raw from 98, not all it's cracked up to be.

then after that go find an episode from about 96 and prove your theory wrong

^Yeah. And download a 2008 episode and you're going to be amazed at how stupid things have gotten over the years.

Wrestling isn't the same anymore. It's as if everything is already done, all the angles, all the moves and segments. We know that the heel tag team will attack the good guys and the ref won't see it EVER. We know that nobody is ever going to win a match with a suplex, we know that Dolph Ziggler won't beat John Cena in a Raw title match. Everything is just so damned obvious.

Is this a joke?

Well when you consider the fact that just about every wrestling fan started watching when they were a kid, it doesn't seem all that useless to me.

man no one (tbh) watches wrestling really anymore... it got old and stale, they need to target a more mature audience for once
Nobody watches wrestling anymore? You mean aside from the roughly 5 million people that watch Raw every week?

^Yeah. And download a 2008 episode and you're going to be amazed at how stupid things have gotten over the years.
If you're going to make the argument that the attitude era was so much better than the wrestling we see today, it's probably best that you don't try to say things have gotten stupid over the years considering how many stupid things came from the attitude era. Just to name a few you have the birth of a hand, the Big Show holding on to a casket with his dad inside as the Big Bossman drove away with it, and the Big Bossman/Al Snow disaster of a feud that involved a dog being fed to someone and the infamous Kennel from Hell match. So for all the dumb things we see today, there were equally as many dumb things back then, if not more.

You could say the EXACT same thing about wrestling back in 98, just like you could back in 88. But the difference between today and back in 98 is that it isn’t new for you like it was back then. So of course over the years you realize more and more how wrestling works and things become more obvious to you. It’s a major part of the reason why so many people stop watching wrestling when they get into their teens or early 20s. It’s also a big part of the reason why it’s smart to target the product towards kids to try and create new fans.

This whole PG thing is very simple. They've been pushing the envelope for years now and viewership has steadily gone down especially since they couldn't catch new viewers in kids because parents won't let them watch it. So we'll go PG and bring in some new viewers. Now kids can watch and they can re-grow their fanbase and later when they start to get bored it'll switch again but it'll likely happen faster this time because I doubt there will be as much hesitation to do so as it has already proved to work once.

That's my theory at least.

I just think they are moving in a different direction to "shake things up". And while I agree, that needs to be done, naming your PPV "Elimination Chamber" is kinda stupid.

5 million people don't watch Raw, Next Big Thing, and yeah they stopped watching in their teens and early 20's because the show sucked/Rock and Austin left. Even people still watching from the 80's and early 90's admit this.

Just wait for Raw's rating to go < 3.0 and SD to go < 2.0 I guess. Or John Cena to turn heel... The latter probably less likely.
