so you think the rock sold out becuase he went to hollywood, though he already sold out when he started wrestling? he started wrestling for MONEY becuase he didn't go pro in football, it's not like he really wanted to get into wrestling in the first place, he would've chose the NFL over WWE if he could have so don't dog him if it wasn't his true passion, he needed a job so he took one, to support his family, and then he went to acting to better support his family and get out of a business that usually leads to people not being able to walk right when they are 50 and early deaths, but all people say is he sold out instead of just appreciating what he did. If anyone of you all worked at a job where everyday your body was beat up and then someone came along and notice you have a talent and thought you could act and make money that way, i garuantee not one of you would give up the money, the chance to better support your family and get out of a dangerous job so you can be around your family for years to come.

just look as jeff hardy he would obviously rather sell drugs than go out and mess his body up even more, tells you the wrestling business isn't the greatest long term.

the rock doesnt owe the fans anything, he already gave them years of his time and the fans gave him money

The same for bobby lashely and brock lesnar, they gave the fans their time and moved on, so the fans can move on, lashley though came to tna becuase he loved wrestling for the fans.
I hate how people don't seem to realize that most or all of the people who say he sold out don't care if he wrestles, and understands why you wouldn't want to fuck up your body or be on that schedule. They care about the fact that he pretty much forgot about the WWE, doesn't make one single appearance as I eluded to earlier, not gonna repeat myself for someone who's this ignorant. Didn't make an actual appearance on TV for 3 years (taped). Quit trying to sound like you know more than everyone else, lol, it just makes you look stupid.

No one is saying you have to be a wrestler for life, we don't expect Austin to get back into the ring, as, you know, IT MIGHT KILL HIM. What we, or at least, I, object to, is The Rock treating wrestling and its fans like they are some horrible dirty secret about his past and not showing up once in a while to pay respect to those who made him.

^^^So which part of the above post is so hard for the majority of peeps to understand. (Well said, K-man!)

The Rock is trying to get as far away from wrestling as he can. That's why he's Dwayne Johnson now.

Someone obvioulsy didn't read the first post in this thread.

Yeah, he wont actually be there at SD, but a taped promo is waaayyyyy better than anything else they've done (which is nothing btw)

How do you know? ...The show hasn't aired yet.

^^^I loved watching the Rock. Apparently all the bitter people did too, or claim to at least, and if your were really a fan, you wouldn't shit on the guy the way he is being shat on in here. People in Detroit didn't lynch Barry Sanders for calling it quits in his prime, the city of Chicago isn't going to knock over MJ's statue just because he has more important things to do than pitch for the Olympics to be in Chicago. Both gave those people everything they had and don't owe them anything. The same goes for Dwayne Johnson. The hardest thing for us wrestling fans to understand is that all good things come to an end.

People need to stop the blind hatred. The guy doesn't/hasn't wrestled for 5 years and yet he is garnering more talk than anyone currently in the biz on this board, thus proving the impact he had on wrestling. Maybe he doesn't need to come back because he's done everything. Maybe he doesn't need to come back because he plain doesn't want to. Either way it's his personal choice, so it's not really fair to shit on a guy you claim to be a fan of. If you dug the dude then mark the fuck out when he makes special appearances, because they are just that; special.

And it's not like it's entirely Rocky's fault, his contract was being re-negotiated a year and a half before it expired. He had his price, Vince had his "principals" and business tact. How things happened is not known. But Rocky did try and stay, he didn't just walk away. Plus Vince had no problem soliciting him to Hollywood, taking fat sums of cash and Executive Producer titles for his contracted worker staring in films. Plus the connections he made letting Dwayne Johnson do movies helped him get the WWE studios project moving. He got Johnson into a business where stars become quite aware of how much they are worth, and Johnson knew how much he was worth and wrestling is a business that no matter where you go,who you are, the promoter tells you how much your worth. Don't like it, go somewhere else, Johnson did. Again, you can't shit on a man for doing what he feels is right.

Not trying to "sound smarter than everyone" or be a smark or whatever, I'm just looking at it in another view. I loved watching the man then, I love watching the very special occasions he appears where he appeals to me. Why would I shit on someone who entertained me so much that when he does appear it is the most important thing happening in a business he left 5 years ago? Especially since he is just trying to enrich his life to how he seems fit. He doesn't owe anyone a god damned thing and it's absurd to think so. To paraphrase someone "he gave what he gave and we paid what we paid".

^^^So does any of what you've just written address the opinon that he'streating us like a dirty secret in his past (See Kaedons's post)?

There's THREE schools of though here NOT two....

1. "Fuck Rock for selling out and going to Hollywood."
2. "Rock owes us nothing" - Let's call this 'the Enzo'.
3. "Rock's treating us like a dirty secret" - Let's call this the Kaedon.

There... Now this has been suitably broken down, maybe (???) this x-year old debate can evolve a little.

That's the thing boss, I don't know where or how the Rock has treated us like a "dirty little secret". I've never heard of him ducking questions about wrestling or putting down the industry. The worst I can think of is he sandbagged Cena at the HoF ceremony and looked like he was going into business for himself, the E sandbags it's entire product everytime a celebrity hosts Raw or goes over a talent, atleast the Rock has the credibility to be allowed to do it since he helped put the E on the plateau it is on. But I honestly can't see how he treats us like a dirty secret because he is focused on other things in life and doesn't want to go back to wrestling? What about Bret? Steve Austin? Bruno Sammartino? C'mon.

It reminds me of that episode of South Park where Chef is about to marry the succubus and Kyle goes: "Isn't it possible that while our time with Chef is gone, that we may be just jealous that he isn't going to be spending his time with us and we should be happy for him and her?"

Stan: "Fuck that bitch."

Bret & Bruno both had/have long running beef with Vince. Entirely different.

As for SCSA... What the fuck are you talking about? Did you miss the million and one guest ref spots & beer bashes since his last match?

If someone can gimme one good reason why Rock didn't contribute to Raw15th Anniversary or WM25 and I may be a little more open to an alternative p.o.v.

Would it kill The Rock to work WM26 with John Cena? Seriously, just 6 weeks of build up, 6 weeks in which he wouldn't even have to appear on every show, and even if he does show, he would just have to talk.

Is it because his so called acting career? Oh yeah, I mean, making kiddies movies for Disney is awesome. Is it because the money? You can't get a better price for cutting just promos for 6 weeks. Is it because the hype and media? If WWE got top talk shows for a match like Edge vs Cena vs Show, imagine the hype for Rock vs Cena.

Then again, it just falls back to the fact that The Rock sold out. He doesn't even want to be involved with wrestling anymore.

I really think that one day he will come back. I think he wants to stay away from one off appearances and coming in for a short while to do matches because he thinks then people will expect more and more of him. I'd much rather he comes back or just simply doesn't.
I'm not in the "Rock sold out" team, I respect that fact that the guy made the smart career move both physically and financially (any of you would, don't lie). If Rock still holds any passion or love for this business then it should eventually come down to the fact that one day he won't be able to stay away. He's obviously financially set (I wouldn't say for life, you can never have enough money) and only 37 years old. Younger than HHH and only a year older than Edge. If he wanted to make a come back the option is always there for him.
I want the Rock to come back because HE wants to come back, not because many wrestling fans feel like he owes the business something, because he definitely doesn't. If anything, this business owes The Rock for everything he's done for it.
