A couple of quick recommendations to check out...

WCW WrestleWar '91 - Lex Luger vs. Dan Spivey

Forgot about this match until I was looking up cards so I immediately dialed it up and, yeah, it holds up very well. A couple of motivated guys working hard and a hell of a finishing sequence adds up to a great match for both. Arguably Spivey's best singles and NA match and I'd put it firmly in Luger's top 5 singles as well. Don't sleep on this one.

WCW Clash of the Champions XVII - Dustin Rhodes/Ricky Steamboat vs. Arn Anderson/Larry Zbyszko

This has long been one of my favourite tag matches and it still manages to entertain me the way it did when I watched it live. Yes, I'm old. Anderson is the star at the beginning, selling his anger at having to face Steamboat and his concern about losing his title. Seriously, he made me care enough about that belt that I forgot the way he and Zbyszko won it in the first place. This will be in my top 10 and could creep into the top 5.

I haven't seen that tag in forever but it was always one of my favourite matches of all time and I can't imagine it not holding up. Definitely a contender for top ten.

I watched the tag again it's still one of the best things ever, may have it top 5. Seeing Arn's reaction to Steamboat again put a bigger smile on my face than almost anything I've experienced this year. Near-perfect Southern tag wrestling, which may be the most consistently enjoyable style of wrestling to me.

The vq is bad (it's an indy match from 1991 what do you want) but I also watched this Lightning Kid (Sean Waltman) vs. Jerry Lynn no dq match again, and its must-watch imo. Juniors matches that mix athleticism with unabashed hatred are also one of the best styles of wrestling.

Randy Savage v Ultimate warrior is one to check out . Honestly it's the only match warrior didn't look terrible in . Savage made him look decent enough which I gather from listening to ex wrestlers and watching myself would of been very difficult to do.

Warrior had a few other good matches. His other one with Savage at SS ‘92, the Hogan one at WM 6, Rude at SS ‘89 and even the Slaughter match at RR ‘91 are all solid.

Rude at Summerslam 90 in the cage too.

Yeah, that was decent as well. I actually just watched Demo's/Hart's from that show the other day and it's great too.

On the subject of that Warrior/Slaughter match from RR '91, I watched the show today so here's some thoughts on a few matches including that one...

The Rockers vs. The Orient Express

Totally wild, balls to the wall opener with both teams throwing everything at the wall in an attempt to steal the show. There's one wacky bit towards the end that hurts it a little, but other than that this is primo tag team wrestling and should have no problem taking a spot on my list.

Big Bossman vs. The Barbarian

I love Bossman. I love Barbarian. I loved this match when I was a kid and I still love it now. A rock solid big meaty men slapping meat match and Bossman looked totally inspired. I swear that the more I watch him the more I think he has a legit argument as a GOAT midcard worker. This may sneak on to the lower end of my list.

Sgt. Slaughter vs. The Ultimate Warrior

Not quite as good as I remembered it but still a decent enough match with a very memorable, albeit crowd deflating finish. I don't think this is going to make my list but I have to wonder how much better it would have been if it had been early 80's Slaughter in there.

Warrior was Not Good but there were times where he was so over and did exactly what he needed to in a match to keep the heat going. More than one of those weasel suit matches vs. Bobby Heenan from the late 80s are actually good matches to me, for exmaple.

I don't remember Slaughter vs. Hogan or Warrior on ppv too well but the desert storm match from June is a blast and one of the best WWF matches of year.

Yay @ Bossman/Barbarian praise. Awesome slugfest.

I won't be listing it but the Hulk Hogan vs. Genichiro Tenryu match from the SWS/WWF joint show in December is some really good big time wrestling. Hogan definitely liked to switch his game up in Japan and somehow was still good at those takedowns nearing 40 and having 20 tons of roids pumped into him the past 10+ years. I wish Tenryu got more offense and Hogan maybe kept the match grounded with holds a little too much even but it's very much worth the watch still.

I normally love the Royal Rumble match but this is one year where I would recommend not going back and watching it.
