I've always felt that if a fictional character's race means nothing to the story then they can be changed however anyone wants, if it matters to the story then you shouldn't change it

but there has to be a reason they’re changing the race of the characters. They’re not doing it just to do it

A lot of my friends that get up in arms over race and ensuring historically marginalized groups get a chance to tell stories they haven't always had a chance to insist that "race shouldn't matter" and "they don't see color; they just want the best person to get the job"... then get upset when a characters race is tweeked in a story. It seems like a double standard to me.

for me I think that inventing original characters of non white origin is better. Taking characters that have been white for 60

I don’t really give a shit that little mermaid is black cause it’s a fucking mermaid. She could literally be pink lol. However, making Snow White Spanish is ridiculous because her description is literally that her “skin is white as snow” so that’s weird.
