Augustus hated both Cleopatra and Antony enough that he would do it out of spite. The thing about Augustus is that people think he was beloved, but he was a bit of a monster during his Triumvirate days, he'd have people slaughtered for little to no reason, and even committed human sacrifice, which in Rome was SUPER DUPER ILLEGAL!
