In June 2015, TheWrap reported that Dwayne Johnson was developing a remake to star as Jack Burton and produce with his Seven Bucks Productions film studio. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz were hired screenwriters.[47] In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson expressed interest in having Carpenter involved in the film.[48] Carpenter responded stating, "It's very early in the process. I haven't spoken to Dwayne Johnson about any of this... I'm ambivalent about a remake."[49]By August 27, 2018, Seven Bucks Productions' President Hiram Garcia clarified that the film will be a sequel and a continuation of the previous film. The creative minds behind the new film acknowledged that they have no intention of replacing Kurt Russell by re-casting Johnson as Jack Burton, but will make a follow-up movie to the original.[50]

It's probably not. I'm just not interested in them chucking out history and started over for no reason. Especially when it changes the story too much. I don't care about Michael stalking the random babysitter from 40 years ago because she cone put a key on his doorsteps. It only makes sense for him to still care if she's his sister and they removed that, so I'm good on it.

I wasn't a fan of H20 erasing all the middle sequels either, but at least Michael still had a reason to travel to California to kill JLC.

they didn't start over. this is a direct sequel to the first one. this movie erased all of the other ones. Which I didn't think was such a bad idea. It was for sure fan service. But reality to me is, it was done slightly better than the original sequels. I don't get why they retconned the sister thing. But..

In June 2019, it was reported that a sequel will begin filming in September 2019, with Gordon Green returning to write the script and direct and Curtis, Greer and Matichak reprising their roles from the first film. Being a direct sequel to the first is the near literal definition of starting over. They erased 12 sequels and 38 years of continuity. I'm not interested. If it was another direct sequel to 2 like H20 was I'd still be hesitant to see it, but I'd probably eventually see it because at the end of the day I'd pay to see another Halloween film, but if Laurie isn't his sister, it's not a real Halloween film to me. I never got to see the original Halloween in 1978. I actually saw the TV cut on Blockbuster video that included the sister angle in the extended scenes filmed for the sequel tie-in so I never saw a Halloween where that wasn't the case. Just not interested in seeing a sequel where that's thrown out. I'd rather Miller and Cunningham stop their dumb lawsuit and get another Friday the 13th made to watch a silent killer in a mask stalk randoms.

It kinda bother me too bc there's ways to just retcon that shit without completely negating the sequels (even if they were kinda shitty other than 2), but if it's a good movie I'll get over it real quick. Haven't seen the newest one tho
