Russo was actually stabilizing the Nitro ratings that had tanked under the Kevin Nash Summer and Fall booking of 1999 and had kept them at a steady 3.5 before he was let go 3 months into his run there and then Kevin Sullivan tanked the ratings back down to a 2.4 after his 3 months in early 2000. I don't think Russo fit there, but man was making a difference there in his first run. Elevating most of the younger guys and putting the belt on Bret Hart. Turner's problem is they didn't understand patience for long term sustainability. That's also ignoring the fact that the man legitimately had the most success of any WWF writer to date when it comes to TV ratings and PPV buys, but yes Russo always talking shit.

As much as I love Kevin Nash as a performer, his run as booker for most of 1999 is what killed WCW's momentum.

But I also don't think WCW was ever winning a ratings war in 1999 with the WWF having The Rock, Steve Austin and Mankind at the height of their powers. If WCW shit for a successfully number 2, they could have done that easily.
