Overall of course. You only have so much screen time and the world is an immense one.

The first season is already a little hard to keep track of the characters if you don't have a family tree anyway so yeah lol I think I was halfway through season 2 or so before I really understood Theon and the Greyjoy family lol

Oh yea, don't get me started on all the connections between the named, but non-major characters :lol Especially while watching it in another language.

My second watch was with a friend and we bought the season 1 box set that came with a guide and family tree with pictures of people appeared in the season but also had the characters that would appear later but were relevant like Stannis

The only specific hate I've seen was about the way the Night King dies. I remember seeing someone (or multiple people) arguing that it his end was stupid and he died way too easy etc. ...and I'm like "have you even watched the whole show?". Maybe I'm completely missing something, but everything about his end makes complete sense. Yes, he's an awfully powerful villain, but aside from surviving dragonfire (which was prophesied) about 10 minutes earlier in the episode, nowhere in the show it's established that he can't be killed by simple stab to the heart with a Valyrian blade. Plus it plays into Arya's character, training and the fact that she does know how to kill someone with a simple stab to the heart.

I truly never understood how anyone could argue that much against this scene. Again, maybe I'm missing something, but I think that is one of the very few hills I will die on defending it when it comes to this Season.

Also it's simply a really cool looking scene, so sue me for loving it, I guess. :lol

Stick 'em with the pointy end.

The white walkers were always meant to be the fake evil next to the politics anyway IMO

Fair enough. I mean there hasn't been that much about them in the books anyways, from what I know. Or at least nothing too distinctive so far. So it's a moot point to get pissy about them anyways.

Possibly another case of GRRM hadn't fully figured out how to incorporate them outside of his one tease a season/book lol that's why the appearances in the first few seasons were so hype but when you really saw them it was more lackluster for most.

I liked the Night King/Bran and all that tho, there were a few flubs early on when Bran first got to that tree but that was the thing complained about the most in the last seasons that I thought were the dumbest and why I stopped engaging in discourse lol it was like "oh you heard the show was bad now so you think anything they do is bad instead of the actual bad things"

Shit that was common in early seasons started being pointed out as a reason the late ones sucked instead of just saying the obvious of they're rushing the story

Also Bran gets to the tree early and does a lot more with the visions in the books that I think you'd really like, he's still there at the end of book 5. But the show never really did the visions bc it's hard without spoiling. There's one in season 2 or so with Daenerys where she sees like the red wedding and stuff but she doesn't know Caitlyn and Robb so obviously she doesn't know who's dying lol but we would as viewers so they just cut it instead of trying to find a way to show it without spoiling.

It's the scene where she sees Khal Drogo and the iron throne covered in snow. They added the Drogo and kept the throne and took out a couple more that spoiled major events sooner

That age old problem with implementing visions into stories :lol

Sounds intriguing though. Like I said, I'm reading the wiki on the side, so I know the Bran/Tree arc is way, way longer or stretched out way more. I'm not opposed to long, more boring sections though. With LOTR it's the same, I first saw the movies, then read the books and I still loved them, even though it was way more wandering around. :lol I probably won't mind.

I read the books I think after season 5 aired and then reread them like 5 times lol the POV character gimmick where only certain characters get them and you only see other (but also important characters) from their side and not the actual characters was the best part for me. It actually makes it really hard for me to read 3rd person books now

Outside of the prologue and epilogue characters who all die bc that's the gimmick, Caitlyn was the first POV character to die in a chapter from her POV (Ned's was from Arya's), and that made reading the red wedding so much worse (or better I guess)

I'm actually rereading The Great Gatsby now and it's only one characters POV but written very much in the same style of GOT with his thoughts and biases thrown in the middle of the conversations. So the books are that but with a few set characters at first (that grows to add a few I don't think are necessary by book 5)
