what a fucking joke. I understand 18 is the mythical magic number in the eyes of the law, but really, putting her through all this over a 3 year age gap? If you go to the same high school you should be in the clear.

What always confused me was the varying if these ages, in the UK for instance I can ride a moped at 16 but can't smoke or drink until 18 yet I'm supposed to be responsible for my actions in the eyes of the law by 10 I think it is. The logic is absent.

I've just had a chat about this with a friend of mine. (I can only base things on my knowledge of UK laws so may not be entirely right in the eyes of Americans!)

Here, if this was a 15 year old female and an 18 year old male this would be statutory rape. People wouldn't agree with it.
Now, the age of both still favours the younger girl. The older girl has to take responsibility for actions in a legal sense but as they both consented it seems a harsh punishment!

It's a horrible double-edged sword and as much as I feel for the girl, as an 18 year old she must have known she was running a risk when getting together with a 15 year old.

It probably is the latter to be fair, it's why it's such a tricky one to argue right or wrong against. Like I said I can only go on how things are in the UK, people will instantly come down harder on an older male with a younger female and the way cases are handled differs between the younger party being under or over 13. It's a different ball game with two females but at what point can the Police prove that the older party didn't take advantage of the younger one?

That's why it's such a damn horrible situation. Most likely two girls who fancied each other and ended up in a situation when the parents found out and didn't like it!

First I heard of it I wanted to rip him to shreds, then realised she had just as much say in it. Luckily the Police here took no action on him due to the situation but it could have ended up with him on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite amount of time as she was under 13.

It's why it's such a hard subject to comment on. The kids don't always realise the consequences of what they're doing, but they have to face them when things go wrong.

If you want to know why the situation is preposterous just google 'age of consent in United States'- there is literally a different set of guidelines for each state.

and as I said before if she were 17 it is a complete non issue. They could have hypothetically been together (legally) for two years but as soon the older girl turns 18 it becomes 'bad' or 'immoral' ? the fuck outa here. And what if the two were genuinely in love? They are supposed to be like lol brb, just turned 18, see you in 2 1/2 years when this is more socially acceptable!

Any time you are discussing sex or relationships and 12 year olds it is a lot murkier IMO. The difference between a 12 year old and a 15 year old is exponentially more than the differences between 15 and 18 year olds IMHO
