World Wrestling Entertainment released Dave Finlay yesterday. He had been solely working as a producer since retiring from in-ring competition last year.

WWE Champion The Miz was booked to interrupt the national anthem during a live event in Champaign, Illinois on Friday. A number of representatives for the National Guard were in attendance (a major partner and sponsor for WWE) and they were not pleased with the anthem being used to garner heel heat.

Once key WWE officials were informed of the ordeal, a decision was made to terminate his contract, since he was the event’s top producer.

His release from the organization comes as a shock to numerous employees. Finlay is well liked and many people are hoping that it is a situation where he could be brought back in the future.

Finlay had been with the company since 2001 and was considered the top producer in the organization. Many credit him with orchestrating the women’s division over the past decade.

Bad, Bad move by the WWE here. One incident upsetting people and he's gone? Well if they're taking that stand point shouldn't Cena be gone over the gay stuff? Of course not.

Everyone make's mistakes, it was a ploy to garner heat, sure they've done worse....Fit Finlay is a legend, in my eyes, he was underused in ring, and was doing a great job on the outside so why let him go. Who they going to get to train the guys now? Not a lot of people that have the experience and skills, as well as a first hand look at the company like Finlay.

Yeah he's been with the company for a while, so this is a shame. But what does that incident have to do with Finlay though?

EDIT: Oh I see, he was a producer.

When you have two high profile talents that pissed off a lobbyist group, you need to drop the hammer on someone to make it look like you're are being proactive about the problem. Finlay is just a casualty of political correctedness. National Guard isn't a real army, but they are a major sponsor. This is like when Daniel Bryan got fired, Finlay is well respected and liked in WWE, don't act like this is forever.

Finlay will be back. Like Deezy said they had to do something and this is it. He single handily makes the divas watchable (if they are even watchable) he will be back.

Agreed that this will be like the Daniel Bryan incident. Not a smart idea to book this angle especially since the US are a bit fanatical about their anthem. You can't insult a major sponsor like that and do nothing about it. Obviously they aren't going to fire the WWE champion so Finlay had to go. He will be back eventually in his role as producer.

Well actually I don't think Daniel Bryan ever was fired for really, but that is a different debate.

But I am with Proidgy on this one, there are other ways to punish someone, and when someone has been with the company so long, and been such a model professional then they should not get fired over this, and if they bring him back in six months then what was the point in sacking him in the first place?

The point of sacking him now and then bringing him back later is a matter of saving face. They have to be seen to be doing something to punish him and the only other thing they could have done is suspend him for three months. National Guard was announced as the major sponsor for the WrestleMania weekend so you can see why they had to take a stand against Finlay. In the end it was a stupid idea of his.

I understand why they did it, I just don't agree with it. And the thing is Vince has this reputation as a ruthless owner who keeps his locker room in line, well if that is the case, then how come he is afraid to punish John Cena? That is the thing that bothers me about this, there should be no favourites, everyone should be treated the same.

Finlay was the man so hopefully WWE brings him back. I do not know why he got bashed for this, but that is the dumbest move on WWE's part having the Miz come out and do that, I mean why not have some foreigner do it? Oh well hopefully Finlay comes back soon.
