Edna Krabapple dead at 70

Marcia Wallace, star on Newhart show and 'The Simpsons,' dies - CNN.com

Marcia Wallace (best known as the voice of The Simpsons Edna Krabapple) has passed away. According to showrunners they are going to retire the character rather than try and replace her, much like they did with Lionel Hutz, and Troy McClure when Phil Hartman died.

It would seem as if Ned Flanders is going to be a widower again, and also an opening for a new cast member, as Springfield Elementary will need a new 4th grade teacher.

It's kind of eerie that they revealed this season a major character was supposed to die and then a few months later this happens. R.I.P.
