I just want to clarify something, as it seems people think Manborg is a horror movie.

It is a sci-fi comedy. It has the aesthetic of an 80's sci-fi romp, similar to Robocop, or Terminator, is entirely self aware, and has a lot of nods towards the entire 80's sci-fi genre. It is essentially Farcry 3: Blood Dragon(which was one of only 2 real ads in the comic, and the developer acknowledged Manborg as a movie that inspired the game) in movie form.

"It's not about the killing, it's about family"

Trying to explain tiny, miniscule niche products like Troma films or equivalent is like trying to compare Juggalo Championship Wrestling to WWE fans.

Yeah, they have their audience, but they don't exist outside of that audience.....hence noone rates them.

Manborg looks like tbh, kind of like trying to say that Spoof films from the Zucker brothers are masterpieces, because they are in on the joke.

With all the effort people are putting into this, they could have spared 65 minutes and actually gave the movie a chance. And that's the run time with the end credits, and the Bio-Cop trailer.

It is also not a spoof, like Not Another Teen Movie, or Scary Movie. The actors never break the fourth wall, and the nods to 80's movies are mostly background, & effects. Like a building might look like it was from Bladerunner, or a landscape shot resembling the apocalyptic future of The Terminator, or blending stock motion puppeteers, and digital effects like Return of the Jedi. The biggest one is the character #1 Man, who is your stereotypical Asian kung-fu expert.

Well I am with you here and think the other two are being very narrow minded, but you should maybe stick to arguing the elements rather than getting too technical.

I'm sorry, but I just can't take a b-movie serious. Troma films have not churned out a decent movie since the original Toxic Avenger. Everything else has been camp.

Call me narrow minded, but movies going out of their way find cult followings are gimmicks.

It's not Paul Verhoeven type of films that are self aware of the silliness of a Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers or even Showgirls for that matter.

Bond movies have been self aware since John Cleese started out as Quartermaster. Skyfall even had jokes about exploding pens, his family home in Scotland(a nod to Sean Connery, as Bond is Welsh), and an Astin Martin that Bond never wrecked.

Last good Troma movie was Father's Day. The over hyped heavy metal murder musical Mr. Bricks was complete shit. I also completely understand your stance on Troma, I don't enjoy a lot of what they make, but there are a good number of movies that are worth watching. Combat Shock, Class of Nuke'em High, Sgt Kabukiman LAPD, Terror Firmer, and Cannibal the Musical are some of my absolute favorites. Lately though Raven Banner & Anchor Bay have been the superior companies, I am not like most of those die hard Troma fans that believe everything they have ever released is good.

I'm not sure what the comparisons to a long standing franchise like Bond to a movie like Manborg is, outside of a few nods to other films tbh. First thing I said about niche films is saying the general population doesn't know it exists. Hence the reason noone rates them, which was the original statement by Coulson.

I kind of thought my comparison to JCW and WWE wrapped this all up and we can go back to square one. I never said niche movies were all bad, like I never say that JCW is shit, because they both do things I think the bigger companies should do.

The Bond comparison was simply about how being self aware, when done right, can add to a movie. Whereas The Expendables 2 went way overboard with it, and took away from the movie.
