If people stopped watching wrestling - because they didn't like the direction it was going then I only have two words about them.

'Fuck Them!'

And I say that - as someone who did exactly that. [I don't live in the US - so I know in your mind I'm not relevant in your bigotted eyes] But people who leave a product, don't need pandering too like little children. You target those that use a product, not those that might use it or used to use it.

I got back into wrestling - by watching alternatives at first. But really - it is their loss.

I disagree. You shouldn't cater to those who never watched or intended to watch, but there's zero reason you should ignore potential or lapsed customers. You shouldn't be happy with dwindling returns and just continue to market to a shrinking marketspace. There's always room for improvement.

They did use it, then the product changed its formula.

You don’t target to a niche portion of the audience.

Now I'm not just talking about wrestling - but if you stop watching a show in 2002. You are irrelevant to a producer in 2021.

No people who stopped watching in 2002 are more relevant, because there’s more of them than the total audience today.

Yeah, you should wanna keep people or get people back into wrestling for sure.

I use NASCAR as an example. They turned a lot of people away with rules that was geared at getting people to watch who never have. Sure it gained some fans, but lost a lot more than they gained. You want to build a future audience, but at the same time you need to keep who you have as well. Sometimes that can be hard because how do you make new fans without trying new things while also not pissing off the ones you have. Because as those fans get older and older, they do have to be replaced.

If you're talking about now, then ok customers from 2002 probably shouldn't be a primary concern, but you should still strive to find a way to make your customer pool bigger.

While we disagree on many things, I completely agree with this post.

I don't think you have any concept of reality. No business plans anything around customers from twenty years ago.

That said, many fans tuned out only a couple years ago and they could potentially be brought back. Possibly. No guarantees.

Tell that to Marvel with how they’re getting Raimi cast in new Spider-Man

The irony of the expert talking about casuals and the lapsed fan who don't watch.....spending hours on a forum to tell everyone how nobody watches.

And the "true fan"......worse type of person.....they ruin anything they supposedly love.....they love it so much, they begin to resent it for not being the way they want it to be.

That codependent attitude is unhealthy.

The irony is - apart from not living in America - I am the lapsed fan that returned. But my viewpoint is irrelevant to him. Its hilarious. We need the fans back! But...just not you or you or you. FAKE NEWS!
