It was when he talked about how if someone asked him if his career was worth it he would say no because of all the time he missed with his father and it teared me up

That is true, it sounds harsh to say but I'm kind of happy I wont have that kind of reaction with my dad.

it isn't harsh... I am guessing you don't have a relationship with him

I mean I'll be sad but it wont be the same reaction most people have when their fathers die, when my mother dies I will be broken. I have a relationship with him but its just not very good.

you never know, things can change between now and then

Never say never but I'm pretty much 99% sure it will never change, he has a lot of his own issues stemming from his childhood that make it pretty much impossible to have a father son relationship.

His mother was great to me as a kid but was evil towards him and my sister.

ah I see. I guess a bad relationship with a parent can either make you a better parent to your children, or you end up being the same to them.

One of my biggest worries is being an awful father, it actually really puts me off the idea of having children.

You have to look at your father as an example of what not to be to a child, not as a teacher.

We all want to be better parents to our children then our parents were to us, even when we didn't necessarily have bad parents.

I understand that but I still have my concerns and with the way I panic and stress I fee I would be overprotective.
