They didn't plan it in advance that's what everyone is saying. The plan was Cody wins the rumble and gets taken out so Rock has to step in. But bc Punk got hurt they pivoted to Cody challenging Seth which made even less sense in regards to him not choosing Roman, and then the fans rejected it so they pivoted again to plan C which we got and was good

That’s what I’m talking about. If they planned for Cody to win the royal rumble and then not to cash in on either world champion before Punk was hurt , meaning no world title match involved the royal rumble winner, that’s just silly, in my opinion.

Like from my vantage point plan a was the worst plan of them all. Plan B when punk got hurt was actually an improvement on plan a because at least Cody was going to challenge a world champion even if it was the wrong one. And obviously plan c was the best plan crazy so many things that happened to get to the plan that should’ve happened from the beginning

Gewirtz is trying to defend Rock's input at every turn but he's just exposing how convuluted trying to cater to his original ideas made everything lmao but I'll still defend Rock too and say he eventually pivoted and everything was great after that one week of nonsense

Since Cody outright said it I don’t think he lies so I believe it but it’s just crazy to me that he was going to win the royal rumble and then not get a world title match. At all.

I believe so and Brian says he got a text from Rock by Saturday or Sunday. Like only a day or two later even before that.

I didn’t watch too much of that interview because of all the negativity that’s surrounding it.

That was Gewirtz saying he thought Punk winning made more sense and was pushing back on Cody as the winner before it happened but that wasnt WWE's plans. He's hindsight heroing

Cody winning the royal rumble was the right call in the end so I’m just glad they didn’t set up a new precedent that the champion just doesn’t get a title shot. That was the main thing that I didn’t think they would be stupid enough to plan, but I will concede that it was and I’m glad that it didn’t happen.

The Cena one didn’t bother me too much because I think it’s fine if they want to cash in earlier on the road to wrestlemania because of their ego when it fits the story but let’s not have people waiting months after mania and getting their shot in August.
