That, I don't think, helped matters. It might not have changed or affected anything. Certainly, on paper, and I don't blame Cody for that, he's real and one of the realest people I've ever met. He said what he had to say in the promo, but you couldn't mask what he was really feeling, and I think the fans felt that a lot. They felt like 'he doesn't mean a word of this. This is being forced for him to say.' He's despondent. He's literally doing the Michael Cera-Arrested Development, Charlie Brown walk out of the arena when he's supposed to be on cloud nine. I think that had a lot to do with it."​

Yeah, he’s the main writer of Raw for like most of the late ruthless and pg era. He’s the rock’s go to guy, though.

I mean, he’s not entirely wrong. We could all see Cody felt defeated, but that being said, the creative fucking sucked and I’m glad the fans could feel his pain and we rallied behind him.

This is my understanding as well. Rock trusts him with his angles and especially his promos. He wrote a good deal of his best ones, supposedly.

To be fair outside of Cody stepping aside everything else related to The Rocks run was 1000 times better written than anything else in WWE. HHH is a very formulaic, unimaginative booker. All Title reigns go on for a year minimum, all feuds are just surface level feuds to fill time.

I.thought he commented on some of the Becky stuff too but I coukd def be misrememberin. Either way it's like if Tony defended his story angles while they were on going - he'd get ripped to shreds
