I’m glad we’re finally getting some confirmation because I suspected since that week that punk was supposed to win the royal rumble when he got hurt they called an audible. Because it didn’t make sense that they had Cody win the royal rumble only to give his spot to the rock. And we knew Punk and Seth was gonna fight at wrestlemania before everything had to change and all the dirts all said that when Punk got hurt that’s the reason why they were going to ship Cody to Seth Rollins because they had to fix that hole which means obviously Cody was never meant to face either world champion at wrestlemania. Which is just bizarre.

So in a previous tweet taken from that interview they said that the plan was going to be Rock/Roman obviously and that they wanted Punk to win the Rumble to face Seth. I really wonder what it could be, special referee maybe? ​

Considering how they pivoted with Seth being involved in Cody‘s program I’m guessing that’s probably what it was. Also, considering that they were having punk make those same special referee jokes was probably part of the inside joke.

The thing that sucks too about Punk getting hurt is even if he had won the royal rumble and faced Seth Rollins for the world title. Presumably, Cody still would’ve introduced the rock fans would shit all over it and we still would’ve gotten Cody and Roman reigns at the same event we would’ve also gotten Punk and Seth Rollins.

At least we got Drew McIntyre out of it and when punk is ready to go. That’s gonna be awesome.

I don't think Punk was ever the choice to win the Rumble, nor was there an audible called when he actually got injured. I believe there's been several people who have debunked the Punk stuff too.

I don't think i'll ever fully grasp what the fuck actually happened because this whole story is a shit show and even after the documentary comes out it won't be fully cleared up.​

I’m glad that they had to pivot once Punk got hurt regardless of what the original plan was because if they were going to do Punk and Seth and rock and Roman and Cody still won the royal rumble, it would’ve said such a weird president if the Royal Rumble winner can just bank his shot and then Cody cashes it in at summerslam or something?

I was under the assumption that Cody was always the planned Rumble winner. Before knowing he was hurt, there was still ways to get Punk to Seth.

Cody would’ve saved his shot til down the line I presume. When Cena won the Rumble in 08, he said fuck it and cashed in his shot at Elimination Chamber so it wouldn’t have been the first time they said fuck the rules.

As far as what Cody would’ve done had all of this happened, god knows. I’m just glad everything worked out and we got the Mania Main Event we deserved

They didn't plan it in advance that's what everyone is saying. The plan was Cody wins the rumble and gets taken out so Rock has to step in. But bc Punk got hurt they pivoted to Cody challenging Seth which made even less sense in regards to him not choosing Roman, and then the fans rejected it so they pivoted again to plan C which we got and was good
