Pretty sure you can’t re-sign someone without them agreeing to it. If he didn’t wanna stay he’s tell them to bugger off I’m sure.

Nah this is a contract option so those might work differently. Idk how AEW does theirs but other sports have the team options for one year where basically the team can decide whether to keep you an extra year or let you go as if your contract has expired. Some players also get options where they can make that choice themselves and others it has to be mutual

Is that how it works with an option? I thought with those it was up to the company. :lol But I’m not sure how contracts work lol
Lol yeah I’m 95% sure that’s the company option. Cage didn’t really have a say

If true I'm still confused why Tony chose not to pick up Cody's option yet still tried to negotiate with him, if you wanted him to stay why wouldn't you just take the option and negotiate a year later instead? Only things that make sense there is that Tony just wanted him to leave or Cody himself opted out

Then yeah, hopefully he is cool with staying. Don’t need to keep someone if they want to leave.

Damn. That’s actually a good question.

Damn. That’s actually a good question.

Could be as simple as EVPs had a choice themselves and a guy like Cage doesn't tbf

I'd still think it be really weird to opt an option on cage of all people if he was unhappy. It would be different if aew had that reputation so unless the man openly complains about being re upped I'll assume it's partly mutual

This is why I compared the situation to Ali’s situation. Dude’s not on TV and his wife has voiced frustration(that maybe doesn’t represent him)

But again, the company controls the option. They’re holding Cage hostage to an extent. That’s why the OP says he’s surprised. When a player has a player option, they have the control. When a team/company holds the option, they are the ones in control

^^^ this is a lot of assumptions looking at Twitter tea leaves. Using the wording being held hostage is pretty baseless with the information we have. Not sure how you can possibly relate this to Ali at all who's publicly asked for his release. Cmon man...

But the difference is still that they allow him to work elsewhere. He's essentially only being held hostage from specifically WWE lol and like i said earlier, some people want the consistent paycheck over how they're used right?

It's only this case if Cage actually comes out and says he wants out and they won't let him lol otherwise it's just guess work and assumptions. He even discredited the dirt sheets assuming his reaction to the news already, so he may not have even been "surprised" like the report says

Am I really that biased nowadays for this Tony Khan guy bc I don't see how it's like Ali at all, he's out here tweeting edgy Batman memes in protest of the company from his couch bc they won't let him wrestle lmao

Okay I’ll admit the freedom to work indies makes it a little different but how much money is Brian Cage actually making on the indies?

That being said, if AEW did let him walk, I don’t think WWE would sign him. He’s not good

Well he's making the indy money ON TOP of AEW money so that wasn't my point.

And if Cage does come out and says fuck this option and he wants out then I'd change my mind but the logic doesn't point thay way lol

Well it's a fact Ali doesn't want to be in his cause he's said it. It's an assumption based off his loud wife that Cage doesn't want to be lol

I'd be very critical if they're withholding his release for no good reason as that's a waste of AEWs money and Cage's time and would be stupid as fuck
