Meteorite Explodes Over Russia, Panic Spreads

Note that this is not the 2012DA14 meteor that was reported to miss us today earlier this week. That meteor will pass over sometime today. But the breaking news an ensuing videos of this meteor in Russia has caused widespread panic in the area. Over 400 people have been injured, 20 hospitalized, mostly by the sonic boom of the exploding meteorite breaking glass and knocking people around.

Spent most of my morning watching videos and following the story on Russia Today, absolutely unbelievable. The videos with sound are just crazy.

A timely reminder of just how volatile our cosmos is. One relatively small bit of rock gets pulled into our atmosphere and injures 950 people.

Chelyabinsk's health department said 985 people had sought medical treatment, including 204 children, Russia's Interfax news agency reports. Two people in the town of Kopeysk were in a serious condition, it added.

The governor of Chelyabinsk region, Mikhail Yurevich, was quoted elsewhere as saying 950 people had been hurt, two seriously.
