WWE’s website published an article with a statement from Vince McMahon. Here is what the article reads.

WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon has released a statement through his office, speaking to the developing situation surrounding the WWE TLC pay-per-view. Because of the previously reported knee injury to WWE Champion CM Punk, suffered this past Monday night on Raw, Punk is unable to compete at WWE TLC against Ryback Sunday, Dec. 16.

In the statement, Mr. McMahon also announced that a Six-Man Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match has been added to the pay-per-view, in which Ryback will team up with WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No to battle The Shield. Furthermore, for the first time ever, the winner of this TLC Match will be determined via pinfall or submission.

Interesting replacement match since they kind of built toward that in a way anyways.

Kurt Angle in the wheelchair was at his heelish prime. I would mark out if Punk used a wheelchair. Come to the think of it, the wheelchair is a proven heat seeker for heels. It just works!

Never want anyone to get injured but thankfully this sounds like a reasonably quick heal. This works out well though with regards to timing as he now walks into the Rumble as champion and will hopefully be fully fit for the whole Road to Wrestlemania. Means that his title reign continues for another month or two as well.

The replacement match is a good match considering it was done on short notice. I am sure that they were going to hold The Shield's debut off for a bit longer but this works well. They can be more protected in this match since it is still a TLC match. Going to be a hectic debut for them.

A TLC match that ends up being decided via pinfall sucks though, why not just have an elimination tables match or something.

A Tables match would make much more sense considering that's pretty much Shield's thing.

Hopefully Punk is able to make it to Rumble without anymore problems.

Something tells me they were planning a six-man tag a while back with Orton in that slot instead of Ryback. With the sudden news of Punk's injury and wanting to keep Ryback's momentum strong, it was best to put him in this match.

CM Punk could cut promos on how he was working with an injury for awhile and didn't get respect for that.

Also, add more heat to Ryback for being the guy who wrecked Punk.

The only reason I see them making it TLC is because they need to have a TLC match considering the name of the PPV. I agree that a tables match would have been a much better idea, especially an elimination match, because of how the Shield have used tables so far but I guess they felt they had to have a TLC match on the show. Admittedly they could easily have made Cena/Ziggler a TLC match with the briefcase up for grabs.
