Adele becomes the first artist to win Top Artist and Top Album two years in a row, last year she also had the number one single. Great seeing Gotye having the number one selling single of the year, first time in 30 years that an Australian has topped that chart, the last was Olivia Newton John with Physical. What surprises me the most is how many new artists are in the top ten singles chart, I would have thought that there would be more established names there with huge fan bases.

Haven't heard a single song or artist on the list.:Kane:

I love being a metal elitist who turned off mainstream shit 7 years ago. Can't say I miss the radio.

I don't mind a few of those songs on the chart, I am a mainstream music listener, I just can't get into the underground indie music scene. To me when I try to listen to it, on Triple J for the Australian members, it just proves to me why they aren't more popular. A lot of the indie stuff in Australia is pretty bad in my opinion.

Really? Do you listen to anything out of Europe or North America?

Australia actually has a burgeoining Black Metal scene. Good for them.

I think underground indie sucks period. It's a big thing with hipsters but so is a lot of bad music. I do enjoy Indie music though. A little Mumford and Sons, Black Keys, Of Monsters and Men.

I typically don't listen to the radio but I do hear a lot of these songs. There's some good music on here. Adele is quality and I don't mind Swift, Maroon 5 and Perry. LMFAO is the only one I can't stand.

That I agree on however, Stonefield must be the most underrated indie band in Australia right now.

I actually don't mind mainstream music, I can listen to most of it. I just like music in general, I can listen to all genres, don't hate any of them really.

If it is mainstream I will hear it if it isn't I won't. I have the music channels on paytv in Australia and basically if it isn't on that I never really find out about it.

I don't listen to Black Metal so I wouldn't have heard any of the bands.

I like The Black Keys, only heard their work from El Camino but I like it.

Never heard of them. What type of music do they do?

People who say indie music sucks are clearly not listening to the right stuff. Or are only listening to what the media tells them to.

When I listen to it it is pretty terrible and pretty clear why it isn't that popular. Some of it is okay and the stuff that ends up being okay ends up becoming mainstream because more people like it.

That's usually because those wannabe hipster assholes get into it. I've liked a lot of bands before they became mainstream. Doesn't make me a hipster. Means I've got pretty good taste in music. The Black Keys are becoming really mainstream, but I won't be turning away from them any time soon. Only problem with mainstream stuff is most artists stick to what's popular and never try anything new. Look at Bieber. He's got the singing talent, but doesn't want to stray away from his shit about a fucking girl or that bible humping shit. Why? Because the preteen girls love that shit. There is no talent in that if all you're gonna do is poop out the same turd.
