@Chris Iron Man had his own cartoon in the Marvel Power Hour beside the Fantastic Four in the 90's, he and Warmachine had spots on the super popular Spider-Man cartoon of the same decade, same with Blade years before his first movie. Guardians(This current line-up anyways) only made their first televised appearance earlier this year in either Ultimate Spider-Man, or Avengers Assemble. And the only people who really knew about them in the comic world are the people who are insanely nuts over marvel comics(aka Marvel Zombies), or people obsessed with finding out exactly who each character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are(since Rocket did get in one of the versions of the game). Also, as Amazing Spider-Man 2 proved, that little red logo isn't enough to make a movie a blockbuster.
The next big one, is seeing if Marvel can properly sabotage X-Men & Fantastic Four to get the rights back. They tried with Spider-Man(replacing Parker in one universe with a black kid, and Doctor Octopus in the other), and its unproven if it worked, but ASM2 did no better than Spider-Man 3. Now they are killing Wolverine, and disbanding the Fan4 in the comics, so there will be no major promotion of the movies in that aspect. Also, Marvel is now saying Punisher showed up in 2 scenes of Captain America: Winter Soldier(driving a yellow Pinske rig), but couldn't show him, or even hint at who it was, because the rights hadn't reverted at time of filming. This is another big thing, because Frank Castle is one of the other Captain America's, along with Falcon(while Chris Evans is saying he wants to stop playing Cap, so they introduced 2 potential replacements)
