Of course, but to me wrestling IS soap. Always was.

For me action is the payoff to a properly built story.
I don't disagree with the latter, I just personally enjoy different ways to get there. specifically on the attitude era obviously, modern wrestling is a lot better in that regard. though RAW still moved at a snails pace until very recently

That's the shit that nearly guarantees I'll never watch WWE weekly again. Especially Raw, with it being 3 hours. The stalling and filler shit is just completely out of control.
yeah same, I can't do it. it's so much stalling it's insane lol

and like I said, RAW has been like this since the dawn of time - I literally remember thinking this as a 10 year old too that I wanted more action and things to actually happen. sometimes you would wait an entire raw for an austin payoff and it be like one stunner or he would get thwarted and ud have to wait another week - despite nothing storywise actually moved forward the entire show. fucking russo lol

Oh I don’t even think any modern company needs to be the attitude era again. I think WWE and AEW are finding a good balance today that works. I think once AEW has cemented its monthly PPV model it’ll be easier for them to plan out because you really need a monthly payoff to do justice to the storytelling on tv and build a match model to work properly.

I haven’t watch the full raw from yesterday yet, but from seeing the clips and social media posts, it feels like at least right now wwe is creating masterpiece theater. The bloodline, Cody, Drew, Liv, Becky, Solo and the Usos, all advancing storylines both in the ring and in segments throughout the whole show. It makes me more hype than ever to see them get each other in the ring on PLE.

I swear they went through a phase within the past few years where they opened with matches. Maybe i'm just totally imagining that though :lmao

They do sometimes. It just isn’t easy to remember since it doesn’t seem to happen often.

Last night started with one and I believe SmackDown started with one last Friday iirc. NXT will usually start the show off with a match.

I do think they should occasionally open with a match more but I also don’t think is anything wrong with finding a format that works and just more or less staying in it. If you look at the general structure of a script there’s generally not too much deviation from it. If you learn how to properly format a script generally speaking, you have the inciting incident you meet your characters You build up the conflict you find a resolution you hit the climax and you take it home.

I think it’s fine to have preferences but I do think it’s stupid to tell someone to watch a soap opera instead because I will die on the hill that pro wrestling always has been a male action oriented soap opera. Especially if you’re Sheamus and work in the WWE have you seen some of the storylines he’s been involved in? Don’t pretend like you work in new Japan lol

Yeah, that guy who sent that tweet was just being a smart ass bitch. I don’t think it needs to be an either or situation either. I think if you tell a proper story on the television show, you can generally speaking have a banger of a five-star match on the pay-per-view. I can name so many five-star matches that were built in the attitude era off a build that didn’t have any three-star matches.
