AEW is working on signing The Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) to new long-term contracts before they hit free agency.
Dave Meltzer reported the news in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
All three men are founding members of AEW and also hold executive vice president roles.
In January, Meltzer said that AEW was interested in re-signing Matt & Nick Jackson to new deals but that process had yet to begin.
In late-February, Meltzer reported that Omega's contract, which was set to expire at the end of January was extended by an unknown amount of time due to the eight months he missed due to injury.
The three were suspended following last September's post-All Out fight with CM Punk and Ace Steel. While Steel was released, Punk remains under contract as he is recovering from an torn triceps injury he suffered in his match with Jon Moxley that same night.
If the Bucks and Omega do re-sign, it would end the speculation of all three going to WWE.
From Meltzer:
"With the Bucks, while they may do well in WWE, it’s not guaranteed, and they will have a better schedule in AEW meaning more time with the family and also less matches and can do their style. With Omega, he doesn’t have kids and he would likely get a major push and would have no end to having fresh opponents. It would also close the door to Japan that he’s waited years to re-open. But he did at least consider and have talks with WWE 2018-19 and wasn’t negative about WWE at all while making his choice to go to AEW. (Tony) Khan did say he hoped Omega would be in the company for a long time to come."
In the last year, AEW has re-signed both Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho to high-profile deals before their contracts were up.
