Yeah at the time I thought they wouldn't do something like that just to have a generic babyface Punk win in Chicago so I was like "Tony def got some 4D chess happening soon"

Welp Gave Punk the babyface moment then he turns himself heel at the presser anyway

I think the MJF stuff deffo made me dislike generic bayface Punk win a whole lot less

I’m not really a fan either. I was really excited when he first came in because I wanted to see what he do outside WWE, and overtime I became uninterested

Lol so exact opposite of me, wasn't excited at all and he had to win me back over it was probably the Eddie Kingston feud for me, I didn't even really care for a lot of his pandemic title reign before that

His pandemic run was when I kept trying to see it but it almost killed my interest in AEW. Kenny Omega saved it.

I really didn't watch a lot tbf but I just remember seeing him defend against guys like Cage, Brodie, and Archer a lot and nothing against those guys but from an outsider it felt like they were just giving him a "monster of the month" to feud with. The Eddie feud was way different, then he went straight to feuding with Kenny and mostly doing NJPW stuff (but on Dynamite) after and I've loved all that shit. Think he's been especially next level since returning from rehab

It was just a ratings ploy to get Punk babyface sympathy and a second reign and hindsight makes it look like a worse decision by the minute

I feel like it successfully pissed off Punk fans bc he got squashed and Moxley fans bc of what happened after and the squash not really being meaningful

Bc it was rushed and the reason he got the actual title shot again so soon was flimsy. I was mostly on board despite it if the payoff was better but it has not been lol

I been a Mox guy since probably 2009 or so. Always liked him, even when some of the Ambrose material let him down. I'd say in the time since coming to AEW, I consider him a top 5 pro wrestler in the world in terms of matches, promos and just my general level of interest in him.

I'd say likely, 100% that the match was happening then. AEW never has #1 contenders hold that status long, even Hangman last year won it not long before the PPV for his return despite having the angle building up longer (and losing it prior)
