They should do it as it would raise awareness. I remember when John OShea came out at Utd and the media were all over it in a mainly negative way. Fortunately his team and a lot of fans supported it and werent the complete homophobes that many expected.

Think it could help highlight the situation in America and hopefully open people up more.

Wait O'Shea is gay?

No. There are some boundaries that WWE should never cross. The closest they have been to a gay character was Golddust, and it should stay that way.

Why is it a boundary that WWE shouldn't cross? Such a large part of not only the American population but the global one consists of homosexual people. WWE likes to say that they are a global company representing all people. From that standpoint it would only be right to have a gay wrestler on the roster.

So wait, the WWE can poke fun at Jerry Lawler's heart attack, but they can't do a gay gimmick???

Good point, I did forget.

I respect everyone's opinion, I just don't think it would be good for the company right now.

"Daddy, why is that wrestler trying to kiss that wrestler?"
If I were a dad (which I hopefully won't be for a little while haha) I wouldn't want a Monday night of relaxing and watching wrestling turn into a talk about homosexuality.

Same can be said about CM Punk mocking Jerry Lawler's heart attack, but I didn't see many people complain about it and say it 'crosses some boundaris' with that segment...

I think more harm is done by not talking about homosexuality. If you're talking about it in terms of love taking on different forms - that it doesn't have to be confined to just men and women loving each other then I don't see the big deal. More and more TV shows are demonstrating gay relationships in their storylines so I don't see why the WWE couldn't too. Regardless of seeing it on TV these relationships are in the general public and deserve to be recognized too. Turning a blind eye to it doesn't make it go away.

Personally I'd avoid it. Like the "being on the forefront of social change" idea, especially with the Be-A-Srar campaign, but WWE doesn't have enough pull to really start something like that. But WWE is a business first and foremost, and it's just not a good business decision.

As Seabs or Stopspot mentioned, the south, there's people protesting the Chick-Fil-A opening down the street, and a group of people planning on visiting the grand opening just to show their support/disdain for the gay marriage beliefs of the owner of a fucking chicken sandwich chain. It's simply a subject better left untouched imo.

I am going to ask this again, since people keep ignoring my question:

How does CM Punk mocking a 60+ year old man's heart issues on TV was any better for business, than a gay gimmick???

Lack of social commentary. On one hand you're making a statement (if done in the way Lockard suggestion anyway, not just a typical gay gimmick) on an issue that's a hot button for a lot of Americans and on the other hand you have a wrestle and his manager simply acting like dicks.

That said, I'd be for it but I also don't care if it ever happens. A straight gay wrestler gimmick would be interesting, for at least one feud. I really hope that they wouldn't incorporate post-the first feud (I think Lockard's final paragraph is the absolute pinnacle of what you could accomplish with the gimmick) considering their honestly isn't a lot of variety you could come up with a story centered around that. At least, not enough in my opinion to justify making it the focal point of a multiple feuds. But yeah, I'd be down with it.

They should do this and make the Gay the face of the company, just to piss off the religious fucks if for nothing else. :jeritroll:
