John Bradshaw Layfield won the WWE title from Eddie Guerrero on June 27th 2004 at The Great American Bash in a Texas Bullrope Match. He lost the title to John Cena on April 3rd 2005 at Wrestlemania.

Shinya Hashimoto won the vacant NWA title in a 3 man Round Robin Tournament also involving Gary Steele and Steve Corino on December 15th 2001 in McKeesport, PA. He lost the title to Dan Severn on March 9th 2002 in Tokyo, Japan.

I accept that JBL was a fairly convincing heel champion (even if he was playing a version of himself), still he was never a credible world champion, his act was pure mid-card material and had naff feud after naff feud. Hashimoto.
