if he was scum someone would have probably let him know that he should save that ability to use it during a lylo situation so probably just town.

He was in the thread pretty early, there's not always time to coach. That's how I would play it though.

The thing Magic doesn't get is he'll just act trollish and seem really scummy if you wagon him early.
