ROH Results Thread

Just what the title says... Here's the results from the Tokyo show.

Delirious gave the welcome promo, which fit because it didn't matter that no one understood him anyway. He eventually got jumped by the No Remorse Corps but Jack Evans and Kotaro Suzuki made the save, which became the first match.

Rocky Romero & Davey Richards beat Jack Evans & Kotaro Suzuki

-The crowd was really into it, mostly because they love Jack. Evans got most of his signatures in before Romero kicked him in the head three times. A real good opener though nothing spectacular.

NOAH Exhibition: Shuhei Taniguchi beat Akihiko Ito

This was pretty much a chance to give two young NOAH guys some ring time and it was a straight up puro style match. Thus, the crowd mostly sat on its hands except for the few big moves. I thought it came off really well, though it was pretty obvious that the crowd wasn't supposed to care. They both looked the same and had matching black tights, which didn't help. A good outing for these two though. Taniguchi won with an avalanche style german suplex.

Jimmy Rave beat BJ Whitmer

Fun, but not a great match. The crowd liked both guys, but Jimmy was more entertaining. Proof that Japan has its share of ROH faithful as Rave was welcomed by toilet paper and a really small "Die Jimmy, die" chant. I know the tp isn't allowed anymore in the States, but it looked like something the Japanese fans had been waiting a long time to do. Rave won with the Pedigree.

Bryan Danielson beat Go Shiozaki

Match of the Night. Danielson is clearly the face of ROH now as the crowd went nuts for him. It's one thing for New York or Philly, but a foreign crowd goes to show how over he is. Someone even busted out the "You're going to get your fucking head kicked in" chant. Shiozaki looked great against Danielson and really gave him run for his money. He survived the cross-face chicken wing, Cattle Mutilation, and the MMA elbows and even managed to hit his finisher, Go Flasher. He finally went down to the Cattle Mutilation. Right before intermission Danielson got on the mic and demanded a title shot.

Fight Without Honor: Delirious beat Roderick Strong

A good brawl between these two. Crowd was into both guys, though one kid was having a seizure over Delirious. The fans enjoyed it when they broke out the hardware, though it wasn't used as much. Strong brought a couple of chairs to the ring while Delirious got a ladder. Biggest spot came when Strong back body dropped Delirious from the apron through the ladder propped up between the apron and guardrail. Delirious won with the Chemical Imbalance. Ending kind of came out of nowhere.

Six Man Tag: Naomichi Marufuji & The Briscoes beat Matt Sydal, Ricky Marvin, & Atsushi Aoki

KENTA was pulled from the match due to an injury he got, presumably from his Budokan match the night before. So the crowd lost a lot of interest in the match unfortunately. The popped big time for Marufuji and The Briscoes. Marvin got his signature spots in, but didn't do much. Aoki got beat down for awhile before tagging out. Finish came when Sydal got hit with the Double Impact.

ROH World Title: Takeshi Morishima retained against Nigel McGuinness

Great, hard-hitting match. There were an awful lot of pro-Nigel fans which surprised me. I don't know how this match will stack up to their last encounter, but this was just awesome. Nigel hit a Tower of London from the apron all the way to the floor while Morishima sidewalk slammed him to the floor later. McGuinness came close a couple of times. We thought he had it with the Jawbreaker Lariat, but Morishima just kicked out. He finished it with a sick Backdrop Driver.

After the match Danielson hit the ring and took the belt. He told Morishima the belt was his until Nigel threw chased him out of the ring. He handed the belt to Morishima and that was the end.

Not every match was all it could have been, but the point was to entertain the Japanese crowd. They pulled it off amazingly well. The crowd was hot for most of the event and actively chanted in ways I've never seen a crowd here do before.

Damn it! Morishima retained >_< By the way, I was 4-2 with my picks.

Results from the Osaka show... Due to KENTA's injury, some changes were made to the card. Not quite sure how it will affect the picks though.

ROH World Tag Team Championships
Jay & Mark Briscoe defeated SHINGO & Yokosuka after a Doomsday Device

Matt Sydal & Dragon Kid & Ryo Saito defeat Delirious & Masato Yoshino & Naruki Doi after Sydal landed a Shooting Star Press for the pinfall.

Jack Evans defeated Roderick Strong after a 630 Splash.

Nigel McGuinness defeated BJ Whitmer after a SUPER LARIAT.

ROH World Tag Team Championships
Jay & Mark Briscoe defeat Jimmy Rave & Genki Horiguchi

CIMA, Danielson, and Marufuji def. Romero, Richards, and Mochizuki (or however its spelled).

So technically, I went 4-1 because there wasn't supposed to be a second title defense! Anyways, even with the makeshift card it seems to have been a good show. I'm surprised Evans beat Strong because I wasn't expecting Roderick to go winless in Japan.

And not for nothing, but that ME looks to have been even better than the original one of KENTA/CIMA vs Romero/Richards.

"Lightning Mike Quackenbush vs. Matt Sydal

Larry Sweeney starts of talking trash to Quack. Sweeney sends all of Sweet and Sour Inc. to the back claiming that Sydal has an easy night. The match starts with a mix of speed and mat wrestling from both competitors. Quack takes control early, only to be met with a spinning heel kick from Sydal. Matt locks in a crossface. Quack scores with a backpack stunner for two. They go back and forth with Sydal showing more speed, and Quack showing more mat prowess. Sydal hits the "Here it is" Driver for a close two count. Quack comes back with a faceplant and a rollup for the victory. Mike Quackenbush advances.

Winner: "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush

Four Way Fray for the FIP World Title:

Roderick Strong (c) vs. Gran Akuma vs. Austin Aries vs. Jimmy Rave

Aries is met with a standing ovation and a "Welcome Back!" chant. It is all for naught though, as he is the first eliminated, pinned by all three men. Akuma is the next to go after a heel hook from Jimmy Rave, who got a big face reaction from the Long Island crowd. Rave is working as the babyface against the heel Roderick Strong, but it is not enough as he taps out to the stronghold.

Winner: Roderick Strong

El Generico vs Delirious

The match starts with a back and forth between the two masked grapplers. Generico has the crowd firmly behind him with his aerial arsenal. El Generico scores with two yakuza kicks and a brainbuster for the win over the man from the edge of sanity.

Winner: El Generico

Matt Cross vs. Brent Albright

Matt Cross is not receiving a favorable reaction from the Long Island fans.Cross is off to an early advantage using speed to his advantage. Cross hits a Sasuke special #2. Albright goes after the arm and locks in the crowbar, but Cross is able to reach the ropes. Albright hits the half nelson suplex but lifts Cross up before the three. He hits a press slam and a Crowbar and that is all she wrote as Cross taps.

Winner: Brent Albright

Kevin Steen vs. Jack Evans

Kevin Steen goes on offense early kicking Jack during his break dance routine.Evans responds with a sick hands free jumping dropkick to the floor. Steen throws Evans into the guardrail nearly breaking the sidekick of some greasy internet geek sitting front row in the process. Evans attempts to make a comeback but Steen decides things would be better if he dropped Jack on his head. Steen hits a Swanton and the Steensault, but it is not enough to put Evans down. Jack comes back with the tree of woe double knee drop. He hits the 630 and scores the victory.

Winner: Jack Evans via pinfall with the 630. (***3/4)

Jay and Mark Briscoe(c) vs. Nigel McGuinness and "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

The Briscoes put the hurt on Nigel to start, so much so in fact that Dragon asks McGuinness if he needs help. After a four way brawl McGuinness and Danielson finally take control. Jay gets his with a Tower of London and a super backdrop, and somewhere along the way was busted open, but he makes the hot tag to Mark. They go for the springboard doomsday device, but it is reversed. Dragon locks in the cattle mutilation but it is broken up by a big splash from Jay Briscoe. Nigel gains control and is more than holding his own against both Briscoes. Nigel hits the top rope mounted lariat! He could not get the pin because it was broken upThe Briscoes regain control, and the sidewalk slam/legdrop combo only nets two. The jawbreaker lariat is reversed into an exploder, but once again only two. Another Briscoe double team, and Nigel just will not stay down.
Mark's shooting star press is met with Nigel's knees while Dragon suplexes Jay. All four men are up and brawling, Nigel and Dragon get the upper hand and try for the rebound lariat and roaring elbow, Nigel is hit by Dragon and gets rolled up for three.

Winners: Jay and Mark Briscoe via pinfall after opponent miscommunication ad a roll-up. (****).

I'll discuss the results tomorrow.

Crap!!! I figured Danielson would go down when they decided to put Briscoes vs Steen/Generico as the ME.... And I guess we can add another candidate in a loaded MOTY ballot >_> and another one with Briscoes vs Steenerico.

And I get the feeling that Eddie Kingston will be part of Jack's crew. As for Morishima, I see onlu man capable of defeating him... CHRIS HERO WITH A SHITLOAD OF INTERFERENCE from Sweeney and the rest of the gang. Its the perfect way for Takeshi to lose the title without looking weak, and drawing a ton of heel heat for Hero.

By the way... The show was called Manhattan Mayhem II. And before I forget, MAN UP!!!!

In the united kingdom we dont really watch ROH, apart from some random shows, and the last one was BJ Whitmer versus Christopher Daniels in the main event. Any ideas when that show was?

Wow, I hoenstly didn't think the Briscoes were going to retain both nights. Cool that they did though. Morishima/Danielson looks awesome, as does the whole card really.
