Seems like it's tradition for Dallas to have troubled players so it doesn't surprise me with Dez. Situation sounds crazy though.

Yeah the Dez Bryant thing is pretty messed up from what I've read, It's a shame too. Guy has so much potential.

New England continues to bolster their receiving corp, today they signed former Vikings Tight End Visanthe Shiancoe.

Wow, that's a good signing. Speaking of their receivers, Wes Welker got a hair transplant. 8D

Very good signing by the Pats. Nobody wheels and deals in free agency like Belichick.

Shiancoe's on the downside of his career, and I think it's a little curious to bring in a TE who doesn't run-block very well. They could have used a strong blocking TE to anchor that 2nd TE spot at times and give them more flexibility to move Hernandez around the field. Instead Shiancoe's a poor man's Hernandez. It's a depth move and not much else.

I disagree. The Pats don't need a blocking TE because they rarely run the ball. In a 2-WR singleback o formation, Shiancoe and Hernandez can stretch the d like a 4-WR package does and it dares the d to stay in their base formation. That's going to give the Pats several mismatches to exploit.

Having two receiving TE's is a great asset in modern NFL strategy.

But they already have that in Gronkowski and Hernandez. Gronkowski's a terrific blocker, and Hernandez is okay but I'd rather see them put him to use as an offensive weapon. For the backup TE, blocking ability is crucial, especially with the changes to the Patriots O-Line that could put my sweet beautiful Tom Brady in danger.

And you saw how often the Pats used the 2-TE formation last season. If anything happens to Hernandez or Gronk, it would change their entire offensive strategy if they didn't have depth at that position. I really wouldn't be surprised if the Pats kept 4 x TE's on their roster as an insurance policy. Always best to sure-up the crucial positions, and your butt buddy Brady definitely loves his big sexy TE's right now. :Smitten:
