Three weeks and three third quarter fadeouts from North. So far this season we have been outscored 144 to 38 in third quarters which is shocking. For whatever reason we play well for the first half and the final quarter but lose the game in the third quarter each week. It is strange because it isn't about fitness as we come back in the last quarter, need more defensive pressure from the midfield and when in front we need to go for the kill. We have played the last three premiers the first three weeks but we should have picked up a couple of wins. Middle of the season the draw gets easier before a tough finish but we desperately need to beat Brisbane next week.

Melbourne looked good in the first half against West Coast but were beaten in the end by 94 points. Saints easily accounted for GWS as well. Tonights games are both close encounters and good to watch.

First game of the Indigenous Round and it ends with Adam Goodes being, presumably, racially vilified. Late in the last quarter Goodes is near the boundary line and a Collingwood fan says something to him, he immediately turns around and points her out so that security can escort her out of the stadium. Whole thing caught on camera and her face will be plastered all over the net in no time. Goodes looked to be pretty upset by it considering he left the ground early and didn't celebrate the win with his teammates on the field.

Shocking that this crap still happens, who cares what colour skin someone has or what ethnic background they have.

Over shadows a fantastic win from Sydney, dominated Collingwood after half time to keep themselves within the top four.

North continue with their fadeouts and have now lost games by 2, 3 and 4 points. Have to win against Adelaide on Sunday.

Watching Eddie before and he is a class act. Great stuff from him to immediately find out what happened and then to go down to the Swans rooms and apologise to Goodes on behalf of all fans and to let him know that Collingwood are dealing with it. He confirmed that it was a racist remark and I read before that the girl was escorted out by police before since racial vilification is a hate crime. I suspect that she will be banned for life from the MCG and from being a Collingwood member.

Andrew Impressive win by the Bulldogs yesterday over the Saints. I backed the Dogs at the line but I didn't think that they would do as well as they did. Fantastic fight from the club.

North continue to choke. This time 30 points up with ten minutes left to lose by 1 point, Crows led the game for just 16 seconds. This season we have lost games by 4, 3, 2 and now 1 point. Brad Scott doesn't seem to have a backup plan when we are ahead by five goals and the other team starts to go on a run. If it happens once or twice a season that is frustrating but alright but four times in nine rounds isn't god enough. Come up with another gameplan.

I was hoping for the same thing. They looked great for the first half and a bit but then Hawthorn finally switched on. Would have been huge for them to beat a top team like Hawthorn.

Geelong has the night game under the lights for the first time.

I wanted to go but the ticket pricing was ridicolous and seating as well. Couldn't book 6 people together had to sit all over the place.

Apparently a concession ticket was like $54

I've seen a view of it, amazing. Here's what a guy took with a led helicopter.

Oh the lights can also be seen from 40-50km away :)

I have been following the progress of that and it looks incredible, going to be a great atmosphere at the first ever night game there. Doesn't surprise me that you struggled to get six seats together, most of it would be reserved for members and with the rest there would be a ton of Geelong fans that would want to see the first game under lights. $54 for a seat is a fair bit. Hopefully when Adelaide Oval is used for AFL next year that they don't charge that much. I definitely aim to go to a lot more neutral games at AO because the stadium is fantastic and so central.

Marty Mattner announced his retirement, effective immediately, last week due to ongoing hip issues. He is still young so it is sad to see him have to bow out due to this injury but the fact that he struggles to tie up his shoes each morning makes it completely understandable. Was a solid hand at Adelaide and played his role perfectly at Sydney.

North keep screwing up. Played only one quarter, just like last week against St Kilda, but against the Saints we were smart enough to build up a ten goal lead in one quarter. There are plenty of mental issues with the players, they struggle to play out games, struggle in the wet and can't hold tackles. Scott needs to actually make a stand and drop under performing players like Adams, Wright, Sierakowski, Bastinac, Firrito and just bring in those performing in the VFL like Greenwood, Jacobs and Gysberts. Need to make some changes because the current group isn't working. I hope that this ends up being like Geelong 06 and that North find form next year.

Melbourne doesn't deserve to be a club at all, showed no passion or pride in playing at all. It's absolutely horrendous knowing they don't give two shits.

Well their President Don McLardy stepped down today after mounting pressure. I hope that they don't get given a Priority Pick at the end of the season, I don't mind AFL helping them out with some money to pay out contracts but they shouldn't be rewarded with more high picks as they will probably screw them up again. Plus others teams deserve to have a draft that isn't compromised.

Was a decent game of footy tonight, Carlton pushed Hawthorn but their class shone through in the end to pick up the win and go to 10-1.

Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has been sacked, replaced by senior assistant Neil Craig.
Neeld was dismissed and replaced by former Adelaide coach Craig, who will take charge of the Demons for the rest of the season.

Neeld was phoned by chief executive Peter Jackson at 7.55am on Monday morning and told he had lost his job.

He then informed the players, who all skipped training to attend his farewell press conference.

The Demons won five matches and lost 28 in Neeld's one-and-a-half seasons in charge. Neeld will receive a payout of about $600,000.

It was inevitable that he would be sacked, I am not the biggest fan of sacking a coach mid season but I guess Melbourne had no choice. I won't feel too sorry for Neeld though a $600k payout is a great way to say goodbye. The club did seem to go backwards under Neeld from 8 wins in each of the two seasons before he signed on as coach to just 5 wins in a season and a half. The breakdown of those five wins makes it look even worse as it is 3 wins against GWS, 1 win against Gold Coast and 1 win against Essendon. Only one win over a proper non-expansion team is pretty damning.

Neil Craig is a good choice as caretaker coach, he was a good coach for Adelaide even if he couldn't quite get them over the line during his time there. Next year they need to hunt for an experienced coach, Mark Williams and Rodney Eade must be front runners.

POLICE today charged St Kilda star Stephen Milne with four counts of rape following an alleged attack on a woman in 2004.

The charges follow a review of the case ordered by Victoria Police deputy commissioner Graham Ashton.

That review was prompted by an Office of Police Integrity recommendation last year that the brief of evidence be reviewed to ensure all relevant evidence had been properly recorded and retained.

In a statement released this afternoon the St Kilda Football Club confirmed a charge had been laid.

'The St Kilda Football Club can confirm that Stephen Milne has been charged by Victoria Police arising from a matter in 2004," the statement said.

"The club acknowledges that any reopening of the matter will cause distress for all parties. The club is gathering details of this reinvestigation and intends to make further comment tomorrow."

Outside the club St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt spoke briefly to media.

"I can't say too much, it's an ongoing issue and a police issue now," Riewoldt said.

"There is really not much as a player I can say."

In reference to this Saturday's game against Melbourne at the MCG he said: "We've got a job to focus on."

The alleged victim in the 2004 incident, then a student, 19, claimed to police she was raped in a darkened bedroom of Milne's teammate Leigh Montagna's Highett home after celebrations for St Kilda's family day.

Milne and Montagna have consistently protested their innocence.

The OPI probe into the case began in 2010 after the detectives who prepared the brief went public with their disappointment that their superior officers, acting on the DPP advice, decided not to charge Milne over the rape allegation.

They claimed other police tried to derail the Milne investigation and tried to influence them not to prosecute him.

But the latest OPI report has found the original rape probe by police was not deliberately hampered or inappropriately influenced.

The OPI pointed out in its report that its investigation was limited to the conduct of police and it was "beyond the scope of the OPI investigation to assess the weight of the evidence against the footballers''.

OPI investigators discovered relevant material was missing from the Milne brief of evidence and recommended that

Victoria Police review the brief before archiving it to ensure all relevant evidence and exhibits were accounted for.

Victoria Police today confirmed it has charged a 33 year-old man from Cheltenham with four counts of rape following an alleged incident in 2004.

The Herald Sun has confirmed that man is Milne.

"The decision to charge follows an extensive review of the initial investigation by specialist detectives within our Sexual Crimes Squad,'' A Victoria Police spokesman said.

"That review was prompted by an OPI recommendation last year that the brief of evidence be reviewed to ensure all relevant evidence had been properly recorded and retained.

"As we have previously made clear, it is a matter of regret that this review found the initial investigation to have been substantially inadequate.

"As a result, further inquiries have been conducted by the Sexual Crimes Squad and after consulting with the Office of Public Prosecutions, the decision has been made to lay charges.

"In recent years Victoria Police have implemented substantial reforms and improvements to our sex crimes investigative processes which has enabled a number of older investigations to be reviewed, offenders identified and charges laid.

"It is unfortunate for all parties concerned that this matter has taken so many years to progress, but having discussed with the alleged victim in this matter, we can confirm that our decision to lay charges accords with her wishes.

"It is now important that the defendant in this matter be afforded the same procedural fairness any other member of the community would expect in these circumstances.

"Victoria Police will be providing no further comment at this time and until the matter has run its course through the normal legal process''

Wow. Took long enough. Hope there is enough definitive evidence, one would have to assume there would be with it taking this amount of time and being interesting enough to re-open it.

Terrible for all involved, the victim and Milne, that it has taken nine years to get this sorted so that both can have their day in court. I don't know which way it will go in court but it doesn't seem clear cut, both seem to fully believe that they are right. The victim believes that she didn't give consent whereas Milne believes that she did. I wonder what St Kilda will do with Milne? He is going to cop a ton of abuse from fans, more than he already gets, so it might be better for him if they stand him down until it goes to court. I think the Saints met tonight so they might make a statement tomorrow.

Well that is North's season over. Gave away a big lead again and lost by 12 points to Brisbane, haven't won at the Gabba since 2005 and that streak continues. Bit worrying to see Hansen get another concussion just minutes into the game, has had quite a few now in his career, also a shame in the fact that he was playing some great football in defence. Finished with no-one on the bench as Tarrant, Swallow and Mullet were also injured during the game.
