AICN has discovered that Fox have registered the title Days Of Future Past with the MPAA, which just so happens to be the name of one of the most famous X-Men story arcs from the comic-books.

The comic-book storyline jumps between the present day and a future in which mutants are an outlawed species, following the assassination of Senator Kelly by Magneto and his faction. A time-travelling Kitty Pryde manages to warn the X-Men of this potential dystopia, and the race is on to stop Magneto before it’s too late.

At this stage, nothing has been confirmed by the studio, but it sounds as though this may well be the story Matthew Vaughn chooses to tell in the sequel. That said, it may not be a straight adaptation, with Vaughn more likely to cherry pick the elements best suited to the universe he established with First Class.

In any case, Simon Kinberg (who also worked as a screenwriter on X-Men: The Last Stand) is in charge of bringing together a workable script, so we’ll just have to wait and see what he comes up with. The sequel will open in the US on 18 July 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed.

It's a great storyline, I'd like to see it happen. Thoughts?

So would this still be using the First Class characters, or a mix of them and the original trilogy lot? Either way, I'm in!

I thought First Class was one of the better if not best film of the X-Men franchise so I welcome another adaption. However I get scared seeing anyone attached that worked on Last Stand. I'm not one who normally hates on sequels that aren't as good as the first but this was absolute garbage.

Speaking of Last Stand, two things:

1: If Kitty Pride is going to be the time traveller, bring back Ellen Page.
2: To answer LB, no, there won't be any main characters seeing as they all died!

I think he means in the first class time line, they aren't dead there and they even are hinted in Cerebro when Xavier first uses it

It's going to be the seventies... I doubt most of them are born or older than 3-yrs-old!

Only Professor X, Scott Summers (Cylcops), and Jean Grey died.

I was being facetious...

Even still those three had NO business being killed off.

Also I counted Mystique and Rogue losing their powers as an extension of that as well.

True but that might be limited to Magneto. We don't know if Mystique and the others would as well.

So it's usually not a story unless someone dies

Quote of the year.

Um, no, you don't kill the main members of the X-Men.

They would need to bring a good bit more X-Men if they were going to go by the book, I'd like totally new actors for the roles instead of bringing back the ones that previously played them. Aside from Hugh Jackman I guess since he's already been in First Class.

I love Ellen Page and all, but I'd like to see someone else take the role tbh.

Forget you then!

:bastard:

TBF I don't see a single returning character from the main series. That's the whole point of doing a prequel trilogy.

They probably should have done this for X-Men 4.
