Wait now, what's this? I probably saw this but honestly forgot. Fill me please.
Non- competes in things like professional wrestling have been dodgy for a long time. Brock Lesnar was able to get out of his just by taking WWE to court and they said they can’t stop you from looking for new employment, but the bigger thing is last year the courts actually declared non-competes in general are unenforceable unless you’re an executive with a company or someone that has what’s considered trade secrets.

So at this point the 90 days thing is a voluntary vacation most talent still take because it’s free money.

I kind of remember that last part, I just wasn't sure if it ever fully went anywhere, since it seems everyone just waits the 90 days still.

FWIW the 90 thing can help too especially if your someone who needs a break and is trying to figure out who you're going to be on the indies.

It’s just free money. Wrestlers are still marks.

There have been at least two wrestlers that have since waived the 90 days. I can’t recall who atm.

Conrad gave the trademark back to Crockett.

It’s a shame because NWA and JCP partnering back up to do a few events a year could have been cool.

Just to be clear, the 90 days thing isn’t enforceable anymore. Anyone that waits 90 days is doing so because they’re being paid but anyone that wants to sign somewhere tomorrow can do so.

Lesnars was different as Lesnar walked out on his contract.

WWE does let people out of their non-competes. Chelsea Green was let out of it to go to TNA after her release (it was a couple weeks early). She just called and they're like yeah sure that's fine.

But the 90 days are 100% still enforceable. All the 90 days are is WWE saying "we will release you in 90 days," which is 100% legal. They are still under contract for those 90 days and unable to work on TV elsewhere. Remember when Heath Slater was released and then a month or so later he came out on Raw for a 1-off? He was still under his original contract.

Lesnar didn’t walk out. He asked for a release and Vince gave him a conditional one that said he could do football and MMA, but after a bit he decided he wanted to wrestler and a judge declared you can’t stop someone from finding new employment. This was 20 years ago.

However, now the courts have declared all non-competes unenforceable. You should look it up. Anyone that wants to leave early can and at least a couple have in the last two years.
