Mostly bc I thought they were done so well it made up for a lack of build, but I was bitching about it leading up for sure.

If I don't like the story, I generally as a rule hate the match. Wrestling will always be about telling a story to me.

Stories can only help matches to me, they don't really hurt them unless it's from actualy storyline booking like interference and shit. Like I guess I have a base rating for matches in a vaccuum and then if the angle and everything was done well it can give it a lot of bonus points

I mean the story bell to bell is what carries those matches really. And I thought the build to the 26 match was quite good.

I do like when you can effectively tell a simple story in wrestling. I don't need months of contrived angles and twists to sell me. Not that there's anything wrong with that either.

Oh I think the 26 match was excently built from a story standpoint, I disagree with Smark that it was "all about the streak" cause I mean that started it but HBK's fuckin' ego was the main plot of that build

It's one of the reasons I rank 'Mania 26 so high tbh

And they told the best psychological stories in wrestling history in those matches arguably, it's not like it was just a "workrate" showcase

I mostly just have a problem with how the first HHH/Taker matchup started being built with Taker returning, then HHH coming out and them just staring at each other

Couldn't find too many matches with more drama, excitement and storytelling.

I just know that was Triple H's idea

The second time they did it with Undertaker wanting to challenge HHH even tho Taker won the year before was way better IMO. I just didn't buy HHH wanting to defend "HBK's honor" or whatever they tried to sell us for on the first match.
