The feeling backstage is that the Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar cage match at Extreme Rules was booked because the company can do a finish where neither man "loses." Many think that with the way Raw ended, with Lesnar being knocked outside the cage, was the set up for a similar finish at the PPV

Since his return, WWE has been very happy with JBL on commentary and that is why he has been on multiple shows in the role. But now the company has told JBL tat he needs newer material as they feel he is getting repetitive and stale.

1. Why are WWE booking HHH to not lose, he's got nothing to lose.

2. So if JBL is getting repetitive and stale, what is Lawler?

Lawler is grandfathered in....

JBL has been getting to be kind of a parrot of himself though.

I don't see how a cage match prevents both from losing.

JBL has been by-far the best commentator on the show since he returned. He's always had must better chemistry with Michael Cole too, and Lawler just seems lost most of the time when he's calling matches with Cole. I'm not saying Lawler should step aside, but he's definitely the 5th wheel in the mix right now, not JBL.

Probably dirt sheet bullshit anyways .

I was actually thinking the same thing about JBL funnily enough. I can't remember which match it was, possibly the one against Ryback on SmackDown but I swear he did the 'World's toughest Vegan' line for Bryan about 5 times. He is good but he does need new material or to tone back the catchphrases.

The thing I don't get is going out of his way to reference other sports and not just like NFL NBA MLB but some shit most people don't watch I think I heard a golf reference on RAW

Meh, I like JBL's work. He does seem a bit stale, but I haven't seen someone actually put as much into trying since Matt Striker.

I just hope he doesn't go the way of Striker: Really fucking entertaining and seemingly knowledgeable at first, then eventually boring when you realized he was completely full of shit.

You know I'd really like a new announce team period. Cole has run his course and so has Lawler I'd be all for Matthews JBL Striker hell Jericho any number of other guys to take their stab at it for awhile. Even if its just to give Cole or/and Lawler a vacation.

Regal should be on the new team if WWE finally switches it up or Foley if he could take Vince's criticism and not get upset about it.

He's the same as every other commentator then. How do you come up with new material when you see the same shit all the time?

Pretty much what I think right there in that post.

Don't mind JBL referencing other sports as long as he is linking it to the wrestling on the show.

Would love an all heel commentary team who just trash everyone and everything.

That diva season of nXt where CM Punk and Michael Cole dogged all the contestants was gold, probably the funniest stuff I've seen in wrestling, period. Cole going overboard and shouting "SPEAR, SPEAR, SPEAR" for Kaitlyns weak ass attempt at one was

On topic, JBL is the goods, I love his obscure (to Americans) football references.

How much material can these commentators come up with when they are heard for a few hours every single week commentating the same thing. They all have their catchphrases and go to lines so I don't know why JBL would be singled out about it when someone like Lawler has been stale for years. I am another that wouldn't mind Lawler being replaced, get Regal onto one of the two main shows, he is quality on NXT.
