Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

You could also add in that he was one of the most underrated ring psychologists of all time. He always did exactly the right thing at exactly the right time and never felt the need to add excessive moves to his repertoire. Plus, his match with Steamboat at the Boston Garden where Roberts devises a way to counter the Steamboat chop is one of the best examples of storytelling and psychology that I've ever seen.

From June 86?

No, Roberts is wearing different colour tights in this match. I'll post it in the wrestling videos section since its on my MU.

You really can't go wrong with Roberts and Steamboat. They had wicked chemistry.

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

I think the problem these days (I believe Troy mentioned this as well) is that they spend too much time using the segments and promos to tell the story than the match itself. In the old days you just needed to put two guys names at the top of a poster and people would watch. It was then up to those guys to create captivating entertainment. Now, that captivating entertainment is done weeks before the match even airs.

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

also everyone gets mic time...from Cole to Jonny Ace to Farty McJobber back in the day...7 guys in the whole company ever got to cut long promos in the ring....everyoen got quick interviews but rarely did anyone get a whole segment of just them talking... really in the WWE Cena, Miz, Sheamus, Show,Punk, Cody, Ziggler, & Christian are the only ones that should get such privileges the rest have to earn it or not suck on teh mic (Orton)

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

I always loved the backstage segments where the wrestlers would talk for one minute or so before the match and get their point across quick. Let's face it, the end result is that these guys want to beat up those guys, so why should they spend 20 minutes talking about it when they can just get down to doing it?

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

I just miss old school wrestling. Pre 1996 wrestling was some of the best. Don't get me wrong, I loved the nWo and the attitude era because it was right for that time. But now, I just wish it was old school again.

This might be a confesion best for the unpopular opinion thread but my real passion for wrestling didn't start 'til 1996. Wrestling now isn't even as it was then.

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

I think it is that way with a lot of people. Wrestling wasn't nearly as popular before the mid 90's. I don't think it will even be that popular again either.

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

Continuing with the rumors of Carlos being inducted, he was interviewed by a page in Puerto Rico and besides talking about the possibility he also mentioned that they are in negotiations of selling the video library of wrestling in the Island to WWE in order for them to use it on the network.

That has to do some good for the industry here....

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

it would not surprise me if WWE offered the hall of fame as part of the bargaining for the video library. Very interesting.

At least on the shows that WWC has each weekend they always put a section called "Clásicos de la Lucha Libre" (Wrestling Classics)... where they use those videos. I've seen matches of Ric Flair vs. Carlos Colón, Bruser Brody vs. Abdullah the Butcher, Pierroth vs. Curt Hennig and so on... so that video library has some damned good matches.

Edit: This link should send you to the ClassicsWWC's Youtube Channel... there they have some of the matches I mentioned...

Re: WWE Tidbits & Rumours Thread

If old matches from WWC end up on the network that'd be cool, never seen any of that stuff.
