On Monday Night Raw this week, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon "fired" WWE Raw General Manager Bret "The Hitman" Hart in what appeared to be the continuation of an ongoing storyline.
On Tuesday, however, some are beginning to wonder if the legendary Bret Hart may have actually been released for real. And for good. The reason? Own Hart's wife is taking aim at WWE once again.
Today it was announced that the late Owen Hart's widow plans to file suit against World Wrestling Entertainment yet again, a continuation of the legal battles that began as a result of the fatal 1999 stunt that the WWE and its executives - including Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon - were "responsible for."
As covered Tuesday morning by Rajah, Martha Hart says that both Vince and Linda McMahon continue to use Owen Hart's name, image, and likeness after his death despite her claim that the WWE executives agreed to do so.
As many WWE fans recall in horror, Owen Hart, then 34, died following severe head trauma sustained from a nearly 80 foot fall from a broken harness atop a wrestling ring in Kansas City, Missouri on May 23, 1999.
The Hart family sued immediately after the accident with Hart agreeing to a $18 million settlement with the WWE ten years ago.
"In the 11 years since Owen's tragic and avoidable death, I have worked tirelessly to disassociate Owen's name and likeness from anything related to WWE in order to protect our children from any reminder of the circumstances surrounding their father's death, and to avoid any misplaced perception that I endorse WWE," she said in a statement.
Hart claims that her late husband's image continues to appear in WWE promotional materials.
