WWE 2019: Wildcards Don't Last - But Wild Times Do

WWE GREAT AMERICAN BASH
The opening contest of WWE Great American Bash 2019 was a tag team match between the duo known as Worldwide Strong Style (Nakamura & Dunne). Against the current WWE US Champion Zack Ryder and Erick Rowan who had Chelsea Green in their corner. In the end Pete Dunne pinned Ryder with the Bitter End.

Next Roderick Strong(c) defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against the "Best Kept Secret" Buddy Murphy. Despite a good showing from the challenger he fell victim to a Strong Driver for the win.

In the third match Roman Reigns went one on one with the leader of SaNiTy Eric Young.
It culminated with the former aka Reigns getting the better of his opponent with back to back Spears.

After that the trio of Ember Moon, Kay Lee Ray and Mickie James competed against each other for a chance to become the N1C the WWE RAW Women's Championship. Moon hit a Double Eclipse on both Ray and James and pinned the latter.

The fifth match of the night saw the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship change hands. When the Uso's defeated the reigning champions SaNiTy(c) with a Double Superkick on Killian Dain. Thanks to the distraction of Roman Reigns and Eric Young brawling at ringside.

Next the quartet of AJ Styles, Andrade, Bobby Lashley and Daniel Bryan went to war to crown a N1C to the WWE Universal Championship. Lashley got the win with a Double Spear on both Styles and Bryan and pinned Bryan.

In the penultimate match of the night the WWE Championship took center stage as Kofi Kingston(c) faced Samoa Joe. Just like the title defence at Stomping Grounds before it this match had attempted interference and a massive brawl at ringside. As Randy Orton and the Authors of Pain brawled with Big E and Kofi Kingston. Even John Cena came out and distracted Joe which Kingston didn't know about get the pin on Joe.

Finally the night closed with a singles match for the WWE Universal Championship as Seth Rollins(c) attempted to defend against the "Real RockNRolla" Finn Balor. This wasn't just a match for the title as the future of Balor Club was also on the line. It concluded with the challenger aka Balor hit the Bloody Sunday followed by the Coup De Grace for the win.

Finn Balor started 2019 with being a one-time world champion in his short WWE career. If you can even consider a day reign as something that counts due to him vacating the title due to injury. He defeated then champion Brock Lesnar© in a loser leaves WWE match at the Royal Rumble.

Then proceeded to hold the title all the way to WrestleMania 35 where he lost it to Seth Rollins. After a few months of brutal feuding with Rollins he would defeat him at Great American Bash to become a three time WWE Universal Champion. Balor and the rest of the Balor Club would attack Rollins the next night on Monday Night RAW and put him on the shelf for a few months at least.

However the "Real RockNRolla" aka Balor didn't have much time to celebrate as his next challenger made themselves known in the form of the "Almighty" Bobby Lashley.

WWE RAW WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
BECKY LYNCH(C) VS EMBER MOON
Becky Lynch won the 2019 Women's Royal Rumble, then defeated Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35 to capture the WWE RAW Women's Championship. She would successfully retain the gold against Rousey in the rematch at Money in the Bank.

Meanwhile at Great American Bash, Ember Moon competed against both Kay Lee Ray and Mickie James in a number one contender(s) triple threat. Which she won by pinning James and then told Lynch that she would see her at Summerslam, which Lynch stated she couldn't wait for the match.​

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP - STREET FIGHT - ORTON'S LAST SHOT
KOFI KINGSTON(C) VS RANDY ORTON
Having had enough of the repeated brawls between WWE Champion Kofi Kingston(c) an the "Apex Predator" Randy Orton and the utter chaos that happened at Great American Bash. Friday Night Smackdown GM Paige took to the ring on an episode of her show to announce a street fight for the title at Summerslam.

She also added that this would be Orton's last shot while Kingston was champion. And made it abundantly clear that if Orton attempted to attack Kingston he would be suspended from the show.

RHEA RIPLEY(C) VS ALEXA BLISS
After suffering repeated attacks both in the ring and backstage at the hands of the self proclaimed "Goddess" aka Alexa Bliss. The current WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Rhea Ripley took to the ring on an episode of FNS.

She wasted little time in stating that she knew Bliss wanted a shot at the gold, and said all she had to do was ask for it. ​

On an episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown, GM Paige stated that she was going to regain control of her show after Great American Bash. She went onto say that to keep everyone busy at the biggest party of the summer aka WWE Summerslam.

A four way tag team match for the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship would take place at the event. Featuring the current champions the Uso's(c), the former champions SaNiTy, the Authors of Pain and the New Day.

Drew McIntyre made his return to the company in a big way by laying waste to the Undisputed Era with a steel chair. The "Scottish Psychopath" stated he knew a couple of guys who never got their rematch for the WWE RAW Tag Team Championship.

Like how he had never got his rematch for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. This led to Breezango appearing side by side with McIntyre, and RAW GM Kurt Angle announced a six man tag team match for both titles at Summerslam ​

At the Great American Bash ppv event the newly formed Worldwide Strong Style aka the duo of Pete Dunne and Shinsuke Nakamura. Teamed up and defeated the duo of WWE United States Champion Zack Ryder(c) and his bodyguard Erick Rowan in a tag team match.

With the "Bruiserweight" aka Dunne pinning Ryder with the Bitter End. FNS General Manager Paige announced that Ryder would defend the title against Dunne at Summerslam as a result of his victory.

Sheamus has been pulled from his match at WWE Summerslam due to a broken finger on his left hand. As a result a replacement is needed and it has been revealed that Roman Reigns will take his place.​

Summerslam 2019 began with a seven woman gauntlet match where the winner would be crowned the N1C to the WWE Smackdown Women's Championship. Nia Jax began the match with Carmella and was able to get the better of her, Charlotte Flair and Naomi. Before being eliminated by Asuka who was just barely able to eliminate the psychotic Nikki Cross. Only to be pinned by the final entrant the "Virtuoso" Deonna Purrazzo.

Next the self proclaimed "One True Bro" Zack Ryder(c) put the WWE United States Championship. On the line against the "Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne in a one on one match, both champion and challenger had backup. For Dunne that meant Shinsuke Nakamura and for Ryder that meant "Broski" Rowan and Chelsea Green. In the end, Dunne got the better of the overconfident champion and pinned him with the Bitter End.

In the third contest of the event, Eric Young, Jeff Hardy, John Cena, Luke Harper, Rey Mysterio, Samoa Joe and Sheamus. Competed in an eight man over the top battle royal for a shot at the WWE Championship. We started with eight but only one could be crowned the N1C. When it was all said and done it was Young who eliminated Reigns to win the match.

After that the Boss & Hug Co(c) successfully retained the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship in a four way tag team match. Bayley pinned Sarah Logan of the Riot Squad with a Bayley to Belly.

The fifth match saw the WWE Smackdown Women's Championship on the line as Rhea Ripley(c) was challenged by Alexa Bliss. With the challenger getting the win thanks to poking Ripley in the right eye and then rolling her up.

Next the Uso's(c) attempted to defend the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship in a four way match. Which also featured the former champions SaNiTy the Authors of Pain and the New Day. It culminated with the duo of Akam and Rezar isolating Jey Uso and hitting the Last Chapter for the win.

In the seventh match the Undisputed Era(c) accompanied by their leader and Mr MITB Adam Cole. Successfully defended both the WWE Intercontinental and WWE RAW Tag Team Championship, against the trio of Drew McIntyre and Breezango. - Strong pinned Fandango with the Strong Driver.

Becky Lynch(c) put the WWE RAW Women's Championship up for grabs, when she faced off with Ember Moon. The challenger put a valiant effort in but came up short after she was distracted by Kay Lee Ray. Lynch didn't realise this and hit the Irish Maiden (Manhandle Slam) for the win.

After that the WWE Championship took center stage as the reigning and defending champion Kofi Kingston(c) was challenged by the "Apex Predator" Randy Orton. This was the challenger's last shot at the title while Kingston was the champion. It was not to be for Orton as he fell victim to the S.O.S

Finally it was main event time as Bobby Lashley with his hype man Lio Rush in his corner challenger Finn Balor(c) for the WWE Universal Championship. During the match the Undisputed Era came out and distracted the BC, Heyman, the ref and Rush. Which led to Adam Cole sneaking through the crowd and entering the ring to hit both Balor and Lashley with the Briefcase. He was about to cash in, only to be stopped by the arrival of Drew McIntyre who laid him out. Balor recovered enough to capitalize on the situation and got the pin on Lashley.
