Road to the Royal Rumble


Event Announcement
The 2019 WWE Royal Rumble ppv event which was also the 32nd consecutive edition of the event. Was announced to take place on the 27th of January 2019. It was revealed that Chase Field in Phoenix Arizona would play host to the event.​

WWE Championship
On the first episode of television presented by the company for 2019. Was an episode of Tuesday Night Smackdown. Which was main evented by a five-way men’s division match. To crown an opponent for WWE Champion Daniel Bryan© to defend the gold against, at the Rumble PPV.

The field of the competition consisted of the following five WWE male superstars. AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, John Cena, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura. Which culminated with the “King of Strong Style” aka Nakamura pinning Styles with the Kinshasa.​

WWE RAW Women’s Championship
The first episode of Monday Night RAW of 2019 took place on the seventh of January. On that show the pair of Bayley and Sasha Banks wrote another chapter in the book of their frenemy saga.

To determine the next woman who would challenge Ronda Rousey©. For the WWE RAW Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble. When it was all said and done it was Bayley who got the victory.​

WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship
On the eighth of January 2019 episode of Tuesday Night Smackdown. Saw the trio of Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Naomi.

Face off in a triple threat match to crown a number one contender, to the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship. Lynch laid out Naomi with the Manhandle Slam, only for Flair to grab her and throw her out of the ring. To attempt a pinfall of her own which got her the win.​

WWE Universal Championship
Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor and Seth Rollins clashed in a fatal four-way match. Which took place on the 14th of January edition of Monday Night RAW.

It concluded in a thrilling series of finishers, first Rollins took Lashley out with a Curb Stomp. Then Balor hit Rollins with 1916, and finally McIntyre hit the Claymore on Balor for the pin.​

Kickoff Show Matches

WWE RAW Tag Team Championship
The first of three matches scheduled for the Royal Rumble Kickoff Show. Came by way of Monday Night RAW, and regarded the brand’s tag team championship. It was revealed that it would be Bobby Roode & Chad Gable© defending against the Authors of Pain.


WWE US & SD Tag Team Championships
Switching things up we float over to the company’s blue brand aka Tuesday Night Smackdown. And it concerned not one but two different championships. Both the United States and Smackdown Tag Team Championships would be up for grabs. As the trio of Rusev (US) and the Bar (SDTTC), were challenged by the New Day.


WWE Intercontinental Championship
The third and final match announced for the Rumble Kickoff Show. Was one that would see the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line. As Dean Ambrose© defends against a man he knows all too well in Seth Rollins. Who was granted the title shot after Ambrose helped cost Rollins his shot at the Universal Championship.​

The Royal Rumble kickoff show began with the commentary team. Comprised of Corey Graves from MNR and Aiden English from TNS. Taking it in turns to welcome the WWE Universe to the show.​

Not one not two but a total of three matches were contested on the Kickoff Show of the 2019 WWE Royal Rumble ppv. In the first match the pair of Bobby Roode and Chad Gable© attempted to defend the WWE RAW Tag Team Championship. Against a set of monstrous challengers in the form of Akam and Rezar aka the Authors of Pain. The defending champions hit a Neckbreaker & Diving Moonsault on Rezar with Gable getting the pinfall.

The duo of Graves and English discussed the opening contest. Both men praised the performances of both teams involved in it.​

The duo of Graves and English once again discussed the match. This time Graves lavished praise on the heels, while English lamented that the New Day didn’t win. ​

The third and final match to take place on the Kickoff Show. Was a one on one men’s division match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Which saw the “Lunatic” Dean Ambrose©, once again clash with a man he knew all too well in Seth Rollins. This encounter was nothing less than a brutal drag out brawl of a fight. It drew to its conclusion when Ambrose put his opponent through an announce table. And this action resulted in a double count out.

The duo of Graves and English discussed the match for a final time. Both men were pretty sure in the shared believe, that this was far from over.​

Next up the WWE Championship was up for grabs in a men’s division singles match.

As the reigning and defending current champion Daniel Bryan©. Faced off with the “King of Strong Style” Shinsuke Nakamura.

Of course, given the well-known talents of both champion and challenger. This was one hell of a first time ever encounter between both men.

Nakamura attempted the Kinshasa only to be met in the attempt.

With a Busaiku Knee from Bryan which led to the deciding pinfall.

WWE SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

The third match of the night was for the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship.

It was also a WrestleMania 34 rematch of sorts just with the roles of champion and challenger reversed.

Despite a lot of underhanded tactics, Flair would fail in her attempt to win championship gold.

As she found herself trapped in the Asuka Lock and was forced to tap out.

After that Ronda Rousey© attempted to defend the WWE RAW Women’s Championship.

Against one quarter of the so-called “WWE Four Horsewomen” in the form of Bayley.

A lot of the WWE Universe thought that this would be a squash match in favour of Rousey.

They would be wrong as the challenger held her own for majority of the match.

In the end though she would be trapped in a Triangle Choke and she passed out in the hold.

Then it was time for the penultimate match another men’s division singles encounter.

It was for the WWE Universal Championship which is currently around the waist of Roman Reigns©.

But who was his opponent? Nonother than the “Scottish Psychopath” Drew McIntyre.

It was more of a brawl than a match as the two men tore shreds off of each other.

McIntyre looked to have the match won after a Claymore.

After that Reigns returned to his feet and hit back-to-back Spears for the pin.
