Universal Championship
At Bad Blood both Dean Ambrose and John Cena won a Number One Contender battle royal. As a direct result of them eliminating each other at exactly the same time. That very same night the reigning Universal Champion aka “King of the Universe” Chris Jericho took part in the double championship main event.
Unfortunately, the match didn’t end with a winning team, but rather a double count out. However, Jericho would proclaim himself as a wounded winner of some great contest. MNR GM Mick Foley took issue with this and decided to put the champion in his place, by announcing a triple threat title match for MITB 2017.
WWE Championship
Shinsuke Nakamura debuted at WrestleMania 33 and not only that captured the WWE Championship in his first match as part of FNS. He would retain the title at Backlash as result of a time limit draw against the former champion AJ Styles.
The “Viper” Randy Orton became the N1C to the WWE Championship. By way of winning a fatal four-way match at WrestleMania 33. He would then defend his prize at Backlash against Dolph Ziggler. Setting up a huge first time title match for Money in the Bank 2017.
