Fair enough, 5 players seems like enough. General question to my players, @CakeWalker, @The Gipper, @Chris, @Comrade Khan, and @Samoa Looch

Would you prefer to start at Level 1 or Level 3 for your characters? At level 1 you're extremely beginner adventurers, and dying is easier but it can also be more fun, but Level 3 has your characters more experienced, having their class abilities already unlocked, and combat becomes exponentially easier.

I guess just depends on if you guys want your characters to be new to adventuring, or already have a bit of experience.

either is fine, depends how comfortable people are at making characters. level 3 would mean most people would have their main gimmick active

Btw the current idea I have for the campaign is my Dystraea campaign, which is set in a world where walled-city stated are spread out on a continent whose wilds have gone out of control and monsters sprawl the forests, mountains, plains, and seas of this place. Relative peace is kept throughout the continent by a set of agreements and an official predominant religion (though other faiths do exist). The setting is set in a combination of late-Medieval and early-2nd Industrial Revolution eras. So for example, gunpowder, trains, and steam ships exist, but are otherwise in the backdrop of feudal stratas or merchant republics (see Venice).

Another question for the party, what sort of tone are we looking for in the campaign?

A.) A gritty, serious campaign
B.) A campaign with some seriousness and some lighthearted moments
C.) A totally irreverent campaign

In that case we'll settle for a middle ground campaign, I've also decided starting at level 3 will probably be for the best.

I've actually got a document sheet that you can use as a copy for your characters, DnD Beyond won't be necessary, in fact I don't recommend DnDB because the site sucks ass, I would recommend using https://dnd5e.wikidot.com/ to look up any thing you need (and it's not locked behind a paywall like DnDB is).
